Why are the Miami Dolphins letting Jeff Fisher hold them hostage?

. I think it is an insult to the Dolphins that Jeff Fisher is taking so long to figure out what he wants to do. Evidently he doesn't have his whole heart into the Dolphins team or else he would not need all this time to decide. I think it is pretty pathetic that Ross needs to beg someone to come for the HC position. He is not the only coach available and according to his records he is not superior above everyone else. If he does come to the Dolphins after all the drama that has been created nine times out of ten he is going to be a disappointment to a desperate acting team

this is what i've been saying all along. Ross needs to stop thinking his fat wallet is what makes the world go round. it hasnt done that much so far.

you dont offer the guy the world and then let him jerk you around for over a week. at least play it a little closer to the chest. guy looks desperate, and quite frankly, as you said, there are other guys otu there who would LOVE to be in miami and get their shot.

and again - fisher doesnt garauntee success. he is "proven" fine.

but how bad is ross going to look if one of these candidates becomes the next big thing and fisher is another mediocre retread? its one thing to choose fish but another to be man handled by him.

I agree with the article. If he's taking this long to decide, how hungry will he be to coach this team. Nick "The 666 Satan" Saban didn't really want to coach the Dolphins either and you see how that ended up.

I feel sorry for the assistant coaches who have to wait this thing out before they know where they will be next year.

Has it been a week yet?

E X A C T L Y! Fisher said he would make his decision by the end of this week. That gives him two more days. He hasn't dragged this out or broken his word. He's still on the initial timetable that was agreed on by Phins and Rams.

GO PHINS~!

As opposed to who? What guy do you want that's proven to be a better coach than Fisher?

Off the top of my head, Billick. At least he won a SB. At least he knows how to coach a winning team.

I know and have read his and Ross' issues. But you wanted one, I gave you one.

as of the middle of last week he said he would make a decision by this past weekend.

you don't interview unless you have already given it serious consideration

fisher looks real bad

Fisher reminds me of that fat ugly girl in the bar at 3am
Every drunk guy see's a beauty and she is the 3am beauty and so is Fisher

We are not being held hostage. Relax, guys. We'll get him or we won't. :)

You are Steve Ross. You canned Tony Sparano (a good move) because he did a lousy job. You now have a head coaching vacancy. You look around at the pool of out of work head coaches and successful coordinators and you decide to target Bill Cowher. He says "No thanks, staying on TV." You target Jon Gruden. He says "No thanks, staying on TV." Tony Dungy? You don't even need to ask him. You can't consider Brian Billick because he wrote about you in his book and you came off looking like kind of a dork. Plus, he's a huge jerk.

Now you look around at who else is available and the consensus among your advisors and the other league people you talk to is that Jeff Fisher is a highly respected coach with a pretty decent resume who is on the competition committee, etc. etc. You identify him as your clear cut #1 choice for the job. You make him a very good offer, but so does another team. He says he'd like some time to think it over.

You let him think it over.

This is certainly one way to look at it, but his indecision certainly doesn't make him look eager to be here. And the 3am comment is great.

This from a professional journalist? He sounds more like a high school blogger that just got her gossip column removed from the school paper.

He kinda stumbled into that super bowl. That defense carried that team the whole year and by no means was he any kind of mastermind for that side of the ball. I think there was even a period of time where they went like 5 weeks without scoring a touchdown on offense.

It isn't like we're the only ones who made him an offer and he has to mull over whether he wants to be associated with us. That would be an insult. It's that he has another offer and he has to go through complicated evaluation to see which one is the better fit. I'm not insulted and I don't blame him.
