Maybe I missed something, but considering that A.J. had no time the other night why did we not put him in the shotgun with two backs to protect? I see everyone else in the league doing the same thing, especially New England, and I think it would give Feeley a little more time until our O-line gels. Just want your input...

- Wanny don't believe in no new fangled Offensive concepts.

I read yesterday that Wanny didn't put Feeley in the shotgun because he felt that with it being his first start and with the loud away crowd it wouldn't be the best thing for him. The shotgun will be back this week against the Steelers.

- Well that worked out O.K. Thanks Wanny!

Yep. That was in his post game conference. Now whether or not he sticks to his word is another thing.

My only concern is, with the Steelers running the 3-4 defense and a much more complicated blitzing scheme. Can this offensive line give Feeley enough time even in the shotgun? Perhaps they can if they leave Konrad or Martin back there to block. But there is no way we go 5 wide with this line.

Shotgun is an entire package, not a play. Wannstedt thought that putting that in on top of the base offense in Feeley's first start might be overwhelming. Feeley looked like he was having enough trouble with the limited playbook. However, with a week's worth of practice and a full game under his belt, he should be ready to take on more.

I think now Forrester and Wanny is hip to the blitzing and will spend this week thinking of ways to counter the blitzes.. If nothing changes from last Sunday to this Sunday.. then Wanny and company is really really dumb..

They would have be beyond dumb... more like retarded.. so I believe there will be some compesation for the blitzing..

Wanny's explanation, a la Sun sentinal: Wannstedt said the shotgun would be back in this week's game plan, and that he didn't use it against the Bengals because the combination of the crowd noise on the road, along with it being quarterback A.J. Feeley's first start, would have been too much to cram in.

"Then you're into silent counts," Wannstedt said. "That's a whole package in itself."

Which begs the question: Who's F--ing fault is that in the first place?? maybe if he didn't spend the whole off and pre-season creating a QB battle that shouldn't have existed in the first place, AJ (you know, the guy we used a second pick to BE the starter) would have had enough practice to know how to handle a shotgun formation (even a basic one) by season's start. But that's just me...

Hip to the blitzing? Seemed that after seeing it a gazillion times through 50 minutes, they still weren't very "hip" to it late in the fourth. But maybe you're right, they'll figure it out a 3-4 D that makes Cinni's blitz packages look as basic as wanny's offensive playbook.

There's reason, Joey Porter usually leads the team in sacks..and let me tell you, they're not coverages sacks

ya i was thinking the same thing watching aj only gettin a sec or 2 to through--hmmm why not the shotgun.---good post

Because the offensive brain trust...... Did I just say that..... :roflmao: Anyways it consists of a retarded 70's pornstar, and a guy that is as qualified to be the OC as I am to be President of the United States of America.

we not use the shotgun because DW is the biggest dumbass in the AMERICA...

Just as a terminology note: when Pitt rushes their front three and sends a LB, that's not actually a blitz, since a 4-man rush is standard. Sending TWO LBs is a blitz. You will surely hear some damn fool say, "Pittsburgh is blitzing on almost every play", when in fact they will often be sending four, and thus not blitzing.

In any event, the blitz counter is simple: throw it to McMichael. If Feeley can read the blitz at the line, just audible to put McMike on an out pass or a slant. The ball, and receiver, will go right where the blitz would be coming from.
