Why Billy Turner Could Be Miami Dolphins’ Best Pick of 2014 NFL Draft

Watch the OSU game. You think Mack needs as much work as Turner?

I think Turner has a lot of promise, but c'mon.

I agree. In a perfect world Turner would sit a year and learn, work on his technique and get stronger. Unfortunately we can't afford that and he's going to have to learn on the job...but I'll say this...he won't look anything like the train wreck Jonathan Martin looked like when the Dolphins first trotted him out on the field as the starting RT his rookie season. And unlike Martin, Turner will get better quickly because of his attitude and work ethic. He has all the tools, unlike Martin where a lot of scouts questioned his ability to play tackle in the NFL and about half thought he should have slid inside to guard...which I bet they changed their mind once they saw him get run over a few times.

Turner is raw, no doubt, but he also has the right makeup to be a solid starter in a ZBS. Athletic, nasty attitude, hard worker, gym rat...no doubt from what I've read and heard the kid loves football unlike the guy we traded to the 49ers.

We'll see how it plays out. My guess, going off of what he did at the senior bowl and reports of him improving every practice, is he'll be one of the most improved players in training camp from start to finish.

Getting to play between two probowl first rounders and one of the best o-line coaches in the league by many accounts probably won't hurt either.

Yet, Khalil Mack (5th pick) gets a pass for playing and dominatiing in probably the worst conference in DI football?

U really trying to compare billy turner to all world lb Kahlil Mack? Until we drafted him, nobody know who billy turner was.

Actually most of the posters in draft forum knew who he was and liked him as a mid round option...

How is it being realistic if you've never seen the guy play against better competition? How do you know what he can do before he's even done it? You're making assumptions and faulting on the negative rather than just waiting to see how it plays out. That's lame.

Well in that case you should never have an opinion on any player coming out of college good or bad.

He could also be our worst pick but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm curious to see how he adjusts to not top tier defensive players in the NFL considering he never played against them in college. I watched the K State tape but don't believe that defense had any blue chip ends or lbs that he faced consistently.

This is nothing more than a reasonable point. He's not saying one way or another. No need to start pulling out the dreaded "negative nancy" card.

and what really gives you away as a hater is comments like , "ok, i will make you feel better, tanny is all world and turner and all time great". can you be any more of a condescending arse?

Doesn't look like hate to me, just poking fun at all the people who get overly defensive when someone's post doesn't complete agree with the dolphin pom-pom waving.

Anybody who praised Billy Turner for his Senior Bowl practices was doing it from a preconceived determination to hype a small college favorite. It certainly wasn't based on anything he did on the field.

I've already posted one link a few times. Here's another, from a completely different source (below). I taped and watched those practices closely. Turner was a disaster. I agree with Digital's summary in another thread, that if Turner had to play tackle this year it would be a nightmare. He needs to be hidden at guard and/or allowed to gain strength and competence for at least one season.

"Over in the pit, North Dakota State tackle Billy Turner had a day to forget. He struggled repeatedly with speed rushers, and his issues continued in team drills. Auburn’s Dee Ford and Arkansas’ Chris Smith were the primary beneficiaries of Turner’s generosity, and helped him earn the nickname “Turnstile Turner” for at least one day. After watching him get smoked at left and right tackle today, it’s easy to see why some teams are curious about Turner’s ability to play guard."

Thx Awsi Dooger - Sometimes we get so much positive stuff it can be hard to make an objective assessment. Billy Turner is clearly a major work in progress but Hickey, the scouts and coaches must all have seen something to arouse the interest level to invest a 3rd round draft pick. This is very unusual, especially considering that he comes out of North Dakota State. All the experts have seen all of those plays and yet they still really, really like Billy so much that they gave up a 4th to move up and snare him.
Let's see what we have in Training Camp and don't rush him along if he's not ready. Turner may have the bigger upside but Dallas Thomas is itching to show what he can do. Let's compare them in Training Camp.

I seriously doubt Hickey drafted Turner because he was determined to hype a small college favorite. He obviously saw something you didnt.

Im going to give Hickey the benefit of the doubt for now.
