Why did Ross hire Joe Philbin?

I was listening to Mike & Mike this morning. They interviewed Jim Caldwell and revealed that Lions ownership hired him because Caldwell asserted some platitude stipulating that "the Lions are ready to win now" whereas other candidates offered a 3 or 4 year visionary plan. If I were a Lions fan I would be upset if Whisenhunt did not get the job because he had the audacity to come to the interview prepared and put forth a long term vision for the team.

Seriously, when is this crap going to stop? Philbin was hired because he came to the interview prepared and presented a long term vision for the team. And we are supposed to believe that Ross is so clueless as to be taken in by a ruse? I think we all like the Lazor hire and if you listen to his press conferences he made it clear that he wanted to work with Philbin, even under the condition that he would not be allowed to bring his own coaches with him. I suppose Lazor was also taken in by Philbin's ruse when he could've gone to Detroit or continued to work for Chip Kelly. And he took the job also knowing, that in theory, Philbin's job security is in jeopardy.

I think people want to work for Philbin precisely because he is a delegator as opposed to a micromanager. I think that right now Philbin deserves the benefit of the doubt now that the stench of Ireland has finally been purged from the organization.

Tony Sparano was never stuck with Ryan Tannehill.

I'm already weary of the Tannehill threads, with nobody changing opinion. There's opportunity to improve with a young coordinator and greater number of rushes and play action, along with -- I hope -- an uptempo running game. The level of upside is open for debate. I'll always doubt the lofty projections, with that type of background. Give me a guy who was awesome in high school and quickly excelled in college, instead of all the excuses. Excuses get you beat.

Ryan didn't quickly excel at QB in college? Double his TD production his 2nd year in the NFL under very limiting factors of the running game and pass protection?

McCarron might lesson the finincial situation at backup QB at best.

Once Fisher told Ross "no thanks", Ross had no back-up plan and was easily swayed by Philbin's ability to police the football field and spot everyone's shoe laces being untied.
 
Seriously, what exactly was Philbin known for?Was it his relentless attacking offenese (like Chip Kelly's at Oregon)? His defensive accumen? His ability to contruct an offensive line? His developement of QBs? I really don't see what the appeal was.

Can you read? Because I'm guessing you might be a mental midget. Or...you just don't care for what you did read. Either way, your post shows utter lack of caring to hear the truth of Coach Philbins resume and abilities prior to coming to MIAMI.
 
Philbin didn't call plays at GB, he did not develope Aaron Rodger, he did not create the offensive line. He appeared to handle a lot of admin type tasks but no actual coaching.

Right now Philbin is a below average coach that scares nobody. When the dolphins repeat their performance this year, than he will be an unemployed coach that nobody will be clamoring for.

That was only 2 games in, during the 2012 season. The Packers ended the season with only 5 losses, two of them to Seahawks and 49ers, who are formidable opponents. Not bad, since the offensive cards had to be reshuffled. As the article pointed out, Rogers lost his QB coach because Clements had to take over OC duties.

This was also a topic of conversation during the SEA game. When SEA had like 5 sacks in the first half. The announcers and even on a GB fan site, it was noted the adjustments to run double TE's from the start would have been in the weekly game plan. The loss of Philbin early was felt. But like any good organization GB rebounded and took off.
 
There were at least 5 head coaches fired in 2012. None of the teams in need of a head coach with the exception of Miami were remotely interested in Philbin. If the dolphins do not advance at least to the play-offs, he will be fired and will be just another footnote in Miami's mediocrity.
