Why Did We Cut Gordon????????

I don't think the Feeley decision was terrible. It was a risk that didn't work out. Griese didn't catch on because he wasn't around early enough. The QBs around early enough were Brunell, Ramsey, and Feeley. The Redskins traded for the first guy and still wouldn't let the second guy go. Waiting was not an option. It was Feeley or no QB. Feeley looked good when he got into games in Philadelphia.

I do think the Gordon trade was bad and that the 4th was unnecessary but amounted to "haze the new GM". It's water under the bridge, though. Rick isn't here any more because Nick wanted total control. So far, it seems Nick deserves it. Rick should latch on elsewhere and finally get a chance to show something based just on his short tenure as decisionmaker for the Dolphins.

Ogunleye is nothing special. The Carey move was done. He took risks.

Other than the Feeley deal he didn't make many terrible decisions.

We just disagree. Bigtime. Ogunleye was a terrific player for us in 2003 and would be great in a Dolphin uniform right now. Mike Ditka said he was the best young pass rushing LDE to come into the league in years. Marty Booker is nothing special, in fact I'm shocked he starts. You'll never win anything significant with the likes of Marty Booker as a starting wideout.

Spielman specialized in panic moves with no threat of equal value. After Ricky retired and Boston got hurt I told my dad it was a simpleton cinch we would overpay for a RB and WR. Hence, Booker and Gordon. A competent GM would have held onto his bullets and waited for a better day.

The Carey move was far worse than Feeley, IMO. You have to take risks at QB. Spielman's judgement was horrible but I can't fault the pursuit. The draft day move to surrender the extra 4th for Carey forced me out of my car and literally screaming into the California desert sky. That wasn't risk. It was overmatched juvenile incompetence. Spielman should have been fired three seconds after the deal was completed. Let me repeat, fired and disgraced. Demotion would not have suited that crime.

You have almost no margin for error in this league, and only a handful of draft picks per year. To trade that 4th two factors have to be in play. First, you have to be 100% SURE the tradeup from another team is a certainty. Guesswork or fear is not enough. Second, even if that's the case, the difference between Carey and the next player on your board has to be greater than the value of a typical 4th rounder. I really don't think Spielman's apologists grasp that in the slightest. Two chances and not one. That is how Nevada sportsbooks survive, offering parlays under the knowledge their percentage geometrically increases with multiple opportunities while the bettor has only one. Spielman opted for one. It was beyond ignorance, that move was worse than anything I've ever seen at a poker table or anywhere else. I guarantee it ruined his chance of another GM job, even in 10+ years.

Ronnie is probably gonna get 15 carries & Morris will take 8 until Ricky returns. I don't expect us to run a lot early on because of Brown's lack of conditioning.

If we had given Ogun the money he wanted....we pretty much would have been forced to trade down during the draft as we wouldn't have been able to afford Ronnie and Ogun's contract under our current cap. Ogun was good...but is not great and the reason our D-line wasn't solid last year was more because of Timbo and Chester out which put more pressure on the DE's. We're fine at DE and have more depth then we ever could have by keeping Ogun. That said I like Ogun and would have liked to keep him......but he had to go.

As far as Spielmen. He traded the 3rd for Gordon because he appeared to be a solid #2 back and was only on the way out b/c of the rams recent #2 draft...a RB that was a bit better. In case you forget we went through about 5-6 backs during the first 4 games. Unfortunately Gordon got injured but the trade was much needed at the time.

With all the griping about Fiedler and Griese sucking even worse (in our system) Feeley was a gamble that many people gave their blessing to (Ron Wolf and others). We did pay too much.....however that was what was required to snag him at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 and the gamble hasn't paid off. He has the skills....but not the mind for the game.

Carey...? He's beginning to look like our best Olineman in my opinion and is going to be a good player for us.

Spielmen didn't always make the best decisions in hindsight (show me one GM / coach or anyone who bats 1.00) but he did have a lot of good ideas and was often overruled by DW in the earlier years and last year he and the organization was $--t on by all the events that happened and everyone was scrambling just to fill spots.

Don't forget the Ogun trade also gave us Booker, a solid #2 WR and a 3rd round pick in last years draft....wasn't that Crowder we selected?

Yeah, it was Crowder, but it was essentially for Lamar Gordon because we never would have made that trade without an extra 3rd rounder.

Ok, I thought this guy was some what promising and we desprately need someone to help Ronnie develop. So we get another dose of Travis Minor untill Ricky comes back. I didn't even see Minor in the pre-season (excluding special teams plays). I think I have seen enough of Travis Minor and a sub-par offensive line last year. God I pray that Ronnie lights it up and fast. I can't take another year as poor as last year. :fire:
I just want some opinions and an answer.
We have Ronnie...why would we get a dose of Minor? He won't get many touches!

I would've thought we'd trade him for a low draft pick instead of nothing. But oh well, what's done is done.

Im sure they tried before they released him.:D

We brought in Gordon during the season becuase we were decimated at the RB position.

Ogun had 1 good year....1... attributed to JTs double teams.

Ogun didnt put those kind of numbers last year for Chicago

Again, where is the rest of the story? Spielman apologists conveniently leave that stuff out. Marty Booker cost Ogunleye, a young Pro Bowl LDE. Carey cost an extra and wasted 4th along with the #1. It's like praising someone for acquiring a Kia for $75,000.

Indeed

Lamar Gordon was released for the same reason that alot of better RB's than Travis Minor have been released.

Travis Minor plays Special Teams.........

It's probably the same reason Tony Bua lost his spot to Kris Richard. Richard is listed as #2 on the depth chart at the PR position. All the big hits in the world couldn't save Bua........
