why doesnt tannehill scramble?

many "experts" have criticized RT's pocket awareness. its probably why he isnt very good at buying time, extending plays or scrambling. just doesnt have a feel for it.

He doesn't scramble because he has very thin upper body and Sherman knows that he is vulnerable and has probably instructed him not to - as a survival instinct.

I think it's mostly due to poor o-line play and poor pocket awareness. I don't believe for a second that the coaches are not letting him run.

I think it's a combination of him being improperly coached and trying to do too much with his arm. HE needs to step up and make the play regardless of those two factors if he's going to take a step forward.

mostly due to poor o-line play? Please explain...

Don't you scramble mostly BECAUSE the o-line breaks down?

I'm sure he is coached not to, it does enhance the chances of him getting hurt.

I've kind of felt that when we start to see him scramble more we can assume the staff is feeling the heat and adopting a "at all costs" mentality.

Yeah, I agree. He just lacks pocket awareness.

It's not like he is looking deep downfield either. He isn't Drew Brees or Russell Wilson.

He gets caught up in his progression and reads. He seems incapable of ad-libbing as well.

He is a system QB. I think he needs a new OC and QB coach in order to grow.

Honestly I think when they seen RGIII get taken out how he did, they kinda dialed it down on the scrambles. I remember him scrambling a lot more last year.

He may be fast, but he is not really elusive. I can't remember a single play in 2 years where he juked someone out. When he extends plays, it seems it is more because he outruns a lineman.

I think it's a bit foolish to think the offense is "handcuffing" him or telling him to specifically not run. It's definitely pocket awareness and presence.

Take any elite quarterback, really - Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees etc - they don't run on DESIGNED RUNS. They have a good feel for when a play breaks down and how to keep the chains moving. They aren't handcuffed to an offense, and neither is Tannehill... he just needs to know when to run, period.

Yeah with a typical o-line and a QB with typical pocket awareness that is usually the case.....but with a QB that has less than typical pocket awareness is put behind that ugly pile of dog **** we refer to as a line it's a completely different situation. Half the time Tannehill is getting pressure from both sides and up the middle leaving him no where to run.....and sometimes his awareness dooms him
