why doesnt tannehill scramble?

I too am baffled by all the 'experts' stating how great an athlete T-Hill is..on the very few times he does take off he looks unconvincing and sluggish.

He certainly doesn't strike me as a Colin K. or RGIII scrambler & his early season fumbles probably haven't helped his or Sherman's confidence in scheming run plays.

To be honest, I would prefer my QB to be first a good passer, before a scrambler as one that means less potential hits on your QB & two if you're constantly scrambling it means you have a bigger team problem.

I still can't believe some of the people on here calling for T-Hill's head. He's no Luck or Manning but he's the best QB we've had since Marino and given the time can make the throws - there are much bigger fish to fry than our current QB position.

i dont get it. all i hear about is how athletic he is. he played wide receiver, blah blah blah. and yet he never takes off. watching andrew luck tonite, as soon as he feels pressure he steps up and takes off. thats such a huge weapon for a qb, hes got the skills to do it, so why wont he? do the coaches tell him not to? worried about fumbles? injuries? or does he just not have the pocket awareness yet to do it?

I have watched Tannehill play very game as a pro. If he is athletic, I am rich.

He looks slow and indecisive. Looks like he cannot run.

Because he prefers his eggs fried....

You do realize matt Moore came in on an 0-7 football team and went 6-3 right?

Great....the ******* prevented this team from landing Luck.....**** Matt Moore

Because he has no pocket presence. He cannot feel the pressure until some 300 lb lineman is laying on top of him. Even slow running quarterbacks run when they feel pressure. I hope Dolphins can somehow get Tajh Boyd in the draft.

Tajh Boyd actually played four years, is accurate, and RUNS when he feels pressure. Tannehill sat behind two dudes that didn't do squat in the NFL, was forced to play wide receiver, because the other dudes were viewed as better, and refuses to RUN when he is pressured, or when there is absolutely no one around to tackle him. Oh yeah, Texas A&M looks a lot better without him than they did with him. If you don't like Boyd, then Manzeil would work, but Tannehill blows big time.

Maybe the coaches clipped his wings and won't let him run or maybe he's not just quick at decision making. I was watching the game last night and one thing I noticed was Andrew Luck seems to have quick decision making skills. Especially on the TD run he scored on.

i specifically remember tannehill leaving 6 points on the board on a play vs. Tampa bay. He could have just stepped through the mess and cruised into the endzone untouched. Instead he threw a ****ty pass

I remember telling my friend when we were watching the game about how if we just busted out a package on even just 1 series with tannehill moving around/scrambling that we would have beaten tampa by at least 14 points

not only should he scramble more, they should design some plays to use his athleticism... sherman sucks... even simms and gruden mentioned he should be runnig more

If I was coaching offense (in practice), I'd have a 'freeze whistle' that I'd blow as a play is developing. Every body freeze exactly where you are right now and see what it looks like. Then Tannehill could see what we see when we scream "Run, you idiot" at our TVs.

Once Tanny looks downfield, he totally loses perspective on the pocket, or if there's a gaping hole in front of him that you could drive a semi through.

Part of the problem with how the offensive line is lacking is that Tannehill doesn't have any idea where attackers are coming from. Normally, you figure your tackles will push the ends wide and you can step up into the middle, or exit the pocket through the middle. With Miami, one of the guards is probably getting whipped on any given play and the pressure's coming from the middle with the escape route actually being out to the side. Tannehill would almost have to look run first to figure out where the hole is, which is probably why we need more designed runs that look like a pass to the defense. Tanny would have to drop back like a passer, then look for his hole, with the offensive line playing pass the whole way.

While there have been a few plays where he should have run, I don't want him running too much. Sure, it's nice if the defense has to gameplan for that but it doesn't bode well for a QB's longevity.

I don't think he can sense pressure well. If he could learn to extend plays more, he'd be that much more effective because he can run and he can throw on the run. Hopefully he can get better at this part of his game + having an NFL caliber offensive line would probably help as well.
