Why Is Everybody Looking For the Diamond In the Rough at QB??????

I mean we are literally waiting for any piece of crap QB that can't make another team, or trading valuable draft picks for 3rd stringers, to just bring in here and become a productive starter. I'm not really convinced that another teams garbage will be our treasure. I think we need to just wait and draft a franchise QB next year in the first round. It doesn't have to be Matt Linert, as I think he will break the bank anyway, just a first round prospect that we need to bring in here and groom.

Please stop with the brilliant ideas at QB. As fans we shouldn't be looking to settle with somebody, we should be looking for great player for many years. What blows me away is there are folks who want to bring in any QB who has a good preseason game right away. I feel like if I lined up with the 5th stringers and completed a few passes I'd have a shot to be the Dolphins starter, per Finheaven anyway.

Just to make sure I was clear, I'm not interested in any of the guys above and I'm all for drafting our QB. Is the draft a definite fix?????? No, but we have to trust the staff and the FO to choose the right player. Waiting for something to fall off of the delivery truck or trading draft picks for a guy who has a good 4th quarter in a preseason game, will not fix the problem.

two things have to happen to draft a franchise quarterback.

1) there has to be a franchise quarterback in the draft
2) you have to be in a position to draft the franchise qb

 Right on man.

It just hasn't been the right time for us since Marino (excluding Drew Brees :fire: ).

Out of the names mentioned, I think Schaub could be a decent starter, in a west coast offense. I agree 100%, I believe fans want to think that some other teams backup, must be better than the backups we have. It's hard to find franchise type QB's, but it's even harder when you're looking in the waiver wire.

AMEN! Love that guy. Hope he comes out this year.

I do agree that Schaub is actually a quarterback with alot of promise. He's only in his second year and every time he's been on the field he has been impressive in one way or another. I expect him to be some teams starting quarterback within 3 years.

Wallace won't be cut. McPherson won't be cut. Schaub is Vick's backup, he won't be cut. Davey is not any good. Rosenfels and Berlin should be given a chance with the starters, if they don't play well, it will never be spoken of again. I would sign Tim Couch, only if we plan on cutting Feeley and putting Berlin on the practice squad. This team will not carry 4 quarterbacks.

Translation: tim couch good
Rohan Davey puke

Everyone's got this Saban/Billichek thing that we need to find someone like he found Brady. I agree that we should just wait till next year. Give Felley some starts, see what he can do, or not do and then draft someone. There should be a few good prospects next year other than Leinart

have you people graduated yet? the Davey deal is not something someone started in order to get a QB in here that noone likes. The deal was that it was news on NFL Network tonight. It was simply stated that Rohan Davey might be the odd man out of a tight competition at NE at QB and Belechick doesnt want Davey to end up in Miami for obvious reasons. And then people like you come along and act like its people on this board starting this. THIS WAS NEWS TONIGHT ON THE NEWS!

that's a fair enough opinion. As far as "anothe teams garbage" though....I noticed that you listed a player in Schaub who is abosolutely NOT considered garbage to the team that has him, Atlanta.

Again, I understand your opinion...but only to a point. Some players are not of the type that can help this team but a player like Schaub would at least have a chance to based on his skills. No player is a gaurantee.

Speaking of Atlanta....I've been a huge Vick supporter since watching him in college and even moreso after his rookie preseason game against us where he threw a laser dart (laser dart? :) ) about 40 yards downfield that never had an arch on it and yet hit the guy dead in the chest (sorry I wrote that long example but it was one of the most amazing passes I'd ever seen)....ANYWAY...back to Vick, as I said, I'm a huge supporter of his and he's the last "can't miss" guy that I believe EVERY so called expert said would be greatness. Yep, all said he had to clean up his passing a bit but that it was not a big issue. WELL, we are now down the road 4-5 years and Vick is still no better than that guy who went off (and lost) to FSU in the national championship game. Of course I'm still a big supporter of his but....wait.....what was my point..... ;)

....oh yeah, my point was that our QB situation stinks, period. I think that people, myself included sometimes, try to think of players who might be able to help us and then post it on this board to see what others think. Are we always right? no, certainly not. Could we possibly be? well maybe, but generally speaking, any of the players someone suggests are NOT going to ever suit up with a porpoise on their helmet.

I think that some folks thow tend to go overboard trying to defend a guy they think could help out team. They feel that they are being personally attacked or something when someone posts "that's stupid" or "you don't know anything about football". After they read stuff like this, they just stop thinking and start posting in a sometimes offensive manner to retort.

Hey this is just a simple message board...a very good one to boot. Everyone has opinions, an they should be able to post them as long as they don't attack another poster or become "socially unacceptable" type posts...yep even the ones that only make a little sense should be heard....besides, maybe thinking that they are being listened to, it'll help someone's confidence...then again, if you're looking for personal fulfillment from a message board about sports....well maybe a different type of board is in your future.

just to finish my thought on Vick :)....If Atlantat doesn't dump that offense they run (west coast veriation or whatever they call it) Vick is going to go down as a wasted talent. I'm not saying bring him to Miami (although I'd love that) but if Vick were put in our or anyone's "spread" offense, he'd thrive.

good post.

I do think however that people might be putting too much into the Saban and his former player link (whether it's us posters or media). We don't know what Saban thinks of Davey. I might not like the guy at all, although I doubt it...but nobody knows for sure. Personally, I don't think Davey is the solution to our QB problems. Maybe he could turn out to be but I'm not putting any money on it....I'd also be very upset if Saban actually traded for the guy. I know that Billy Boy up there is attempting to trade him instead of releasing so Saban won't even have a shot (if he wants him). If Saban really wants Rohan, he can sit back and wait for him to just get cut. It another team trades for him...so be it...I just don't think he's that big of a deal.

we just want someone.. anyone to claim the starting qb job with conviction and show they deserve the job

The attitude towards QBs that many on this board seem to have is like buying junk at a garage sale.

Yes, every once in a while someone finds a Van Gogh underneath the picture of dogs playing poker or the black velvet Elvis they bought, but usually whatever you buy ends up either in your own garage sale a year later or you simply throw it out with the garbage.

hey, I like the "velvet elvis" paintings....of course I'm sure that If I ever get married I'll have to garage sale 'em. :)

anyway....you're are right about that...but as Cornell there put it...we just want ANY guy that goes out there and basically says...."this is my job, I'm not giving it up unless you kill me" . We haven't had an attitude like that since Marino....that type of brashness can rub some folks the wrong way but I've always felt that a true leader at the QB position it's going to care about hurting many feelings (most great leaders don't)....instead we keep getting the comments from the AJs, Gus' and Jay Fiedlers who are like..."well, we're friends and well, sniff, sniff, we are just going to try our best, sniff"

I guess I'm saying that I wouldn't mind having a QB who's got a little bit of prick in him (NO pun intended..at all!)

i agree... everyone is looking for the next Brady or the next Delhomme.

I think we'd be better drafting a QB for a change and developing someone ourselves... whether it be a top tier guy like Leinart, Leak, Jacobs or Young, or a slightly lower ranked guy like Jay Cutler or Charlie Whitehurst.

What is more important than having a great Qb? Cut people to make it happen if need be. Great Qb's cost money its life, when we are in a position to get one we need to make the space.
