Why is everyone bashing Ronnie Brown?

I simply can't blame Ronnie on this.

I've said it many times before...I blame the team for not trading down (even if he was the guy they truly wanted) if they weren't going to pay the money slot money for a #2 overall pick.

I like the fact that Ronnie's kept his mouth shut. We haven't heard anything about the contract come out of his mouth, unlike Benson or that total idiot Adam (soon to be Pac n' Ship) Jones.

Now we don't know what's being said behind closed doors with France and Brown, so I can't comment on that. But I don't think Ronnie's actual character should be questioned yet. If you want to question a holdout character (although I don't think there's a question any longer) check out some of the Jones articles. Jones has now come out and blasted some of his soon to be teamates (maybe?), Bullock and Haynesworth I believe, and he's done it in the PRESS no less (hey Dr. Suess :) ). Ok that's off subjest sorry.

Anyway, I don't think anything Brown has done so far causes concern for his character. Oh, BTW, Caddy's contract was a raise over last years pick at that spot by 18 % I believe. That's why he's in camp.

Everyone keeps saying that the Phins should have traded out of the #2 spot. Does everyone think the Phins could have unilaterally forced a trade? It would be like....Gee, there really arent any players available that are worth what a #2 pick will demand, so we have decided to trade our pick to...lets see....uhh, Green Bay. We will give them our #2 overall for their 1st, and 3rd round picks, plus a player of our choosing. Green Bay is not yet aware that we have traded with them, but they will be notified within the hour.

It takes two to tango.....you can't just say "we should have traded the pick"

You're wrong. The Dolphins are offering him an 8% increase over last year's second overall pick. The problem is that the 9ers were stupid enough to give Alex Smith a nearly 20% increase over the first from last year.

Correct....and the salary cap increased just 5% over last year

probably because he hasn't even taken a snap in the NFL and wants all this guaranteed money. Well where's OUR guarantee that he's gonna be any good?

There needs to be a little give and take. He's just taking.

This is EXACTLY the reason why there are threads bashing him!! If he can't compromise in some fashion then perhaps he should go back to college and forget his NFL career. I'm getting sick and tired of these college athletes who "think" they're entitled to all the money in the world without proving themselves!! It's bad enough those athletes who have proven themselves want some mucho $$$$$, but at least they have proven themselves at that point!! So if you want to know why, that's a reason right there!! :fire: :fire: :fire:

But thats the NFL SYSTEM! Like I said, your gripe is with the NFl and the NFLPA, not Ronnie! They have a system that allows UNPROVEN players to be grossly overpaid.. Why should we be upset with someone who is just trying to do what the system dictates?

Yes when I was a Theatre Major at UCF I got a couple igh paying jobs in acting out in California. Sure it wasn't 20 million but it was definitely a very large amount of money which I won't get into detail.

I decided there were more important things I needed to take care of like my family who at the time where not in the best of positions.

I also turned down a $60,000 a year job as a PR but chose to stick with the comedy Improv gig I was doing that I was lucky to get $10 a night at.

So yes I can speak morally and call Ronnie selfish. Granted we aren't talking about the same kind of money but I turned down on a couple occasions a very significant increase in pay, or offer but in the end that is not what would have made me happy.

It's not always abou the money. So yes, Ronnie is being selfish, if he wanted to contribute and help the Phins and play Football he would be on the field and accept the offer that ALREADY EXCEEDS THAT OF THE #2 LAST YEAR.

With that said, I like Brown and up until this incident thought he was a class act. He will be a stud, it is just pathetic to hold out for the reason he is holding out for.

Would you give up 3 million? Yes or no?
If the market value for PR firm said you were worth $60,000 but then offered you $54,000 would you have taken it? For the better of the firm?

I see where your coming from but you made your choice based on what made YOU happy, if anything a selfish decision in itself. How much further did you put off your kids college, parents nursing home or wife's wedding ring so you could be happy?(purely hypothetical questions of course and not meant to be personal).

So, instead of taking the higher paying job so those you care about could be in a better situation, you chose the selfish route and followed your heart.

Ronnie is doing the same thing, except he is not hurting family or friends, he is pissing off some fans who could not care less about him if he could not run the ball and a front office that does not want to pay him market value.

Finally, not knowing you from a hole in the wall, your life decisions leads me to believe your not a class act. Sounds silly doesn't it?

Why do we think Ronnie is selfish? Because we are Dolphin fans and we want the best for the Dolphins. Our stud RB should be in camp, instead he wants more money. Sure that is a realistic approach. I'd do the same in his shoes, but I am a FinsFan, not a RonnieFan.

You can't make that comparison. It's not 60,000 a year, it's 5,000,000 a year. And the difference isn't 6,000 a year but possibly 500,000 a year. Whether someone is arguing for or against Ronnie, we'd be better off if we didn't compare big NFL money to the regular working guy's salary.

I did not make the comparison, the gentleman I quoted did when he mentioned what he accepted & turned down and then compared his work ethic & priorities to Ronnie's.
