Why is everyone bashing Ronnie Brown?

I'm not bashing Ronnie.

I've been bashing the team for not wanting to pay slot money for the #2 overall pick. (I still say we should have traded down out of the top 10) even though the team knew what it was going to cost.

I also have been bashing the NFL and the NFLPA for not correcting a 1st round contract system that puts the players and the teams in a situation for things like this to happen. It's simply rediculous that a player with no NFL experience is being paid more than the elite starters in the league are paid. And this will happen every year until the 1st round (at the minimum) is hard contract slotted like the NBA.

It's one of the few things the NFL lags behind the NBA but it makes sure the players who earn big pay checks get them after 3 years in the league (they become restricted FA at that time in the NBA with unrestricted the 4th year if the player is just tendered and not signed long term by that time). This guarantees that guys who can't cut it will not be blights to the team and their salary cap.

It's simply better than what the NFL does. And should be looked into immediately.

I agree with that.. the NFLPA and NFL have to do something about rookie contracts.. But until then, I cant blame the players for playing the game the way the system dictates.
 
All i ask is the people calling him selfish look in the mirror, and ask themselves, Would I give up 3 million? I can pretty much gaurantee that no one would. But since he is a member of our team, He should get paid less right? Give me a break. Get paid Ronnie. You played for free for over ten years while your teams made money off of you. The dolphins told you you were worth second pick money when they picked you at guess what? #2!!! He earned it. He desreves it for no other reason than the market determines WHAT HE GETS PAID.

This is the NFL system, highly picked rookies get ABSURD money, and they generally get more money than those in the same slot the year before.. This is the NFL process, and Ronnie is just playing the game.. If you have gripes about the amount of money rookies get paid, thats a gripe with the NFL, not Brown..

He isnt being selfish of greedy, he is waiting for what he feels the NFL states he is worth. IMO, the ones bashing Ronnie over this are the ones being selfish, because it effects your team..

My problem is the fact that coming out of college this guy was upposed to be a "character" guy. Well after seeing Cadillac Williams basically telling his agent, I was not going to miss training camp and him being there from day one...........makes me wonder what is Ronnie's priorities?
 
last years number 2 was a left tackle which is one of the most expensive positions.

that's the difficult thing, the "market" for RBs is ultra low right now. When you can pick up an all-star\all-pro for a 3rd round pick and less money than the RB picked at #2 overall...it's just wrong

Of course, Miami knew this going into the draft (if they didn't then they are excpetionally stupid). I, for one, now know the reason why a RB hasn't been chosen in the top 5 of the draft for so long. I honestly couldn't figure it out before (except for the lack of talent of course). I mean i remember when LaDanian came out. Everyone knew he was going to be very very good (maybe not quite this good..100 rec?) but he didn't get drafted until I think #6 overall (maybe it was 5 or 7 I'm not sure) I just couldn't believe he lasted that long. We'll the money difference drops off greatly after the top 4 picks in the draft. I all makes sense to me.....it just seems like it didn't make sense to the Phins?

I simply can't blame Ronnie on this.

I've said it many times before...I blame the team for not trading down (even if he was the guy they truly wanted) if they weren't going to pay the money slot money for a #2 overall pick.

I like the fact that Ronnie's kept his mouth shut. We haven't heard anything about the contract come out of his mouth, unlike Benson or that total idiot Adam (soon to be Pac n' Ship) Jones.

Now we don't know what's being said behind closed doors with France and Brown, so I can't comment on that. But I don't think Ronnie's actual character should be questioned yet. If you want to question a holdout character (although I don't think there's a question any longer) check out some of the Jones articles. Jones has now come out and blasted some of his soon to be teamates (maybe?), Bullock and Haynesworth I believe, and he's done it in the PRESS no less (hey Dr. Suess :) ). Ok that's off subjest sorry.

Anyway, I don't think anything Brown has done so far causes concern for his character. Oh, BTW, Caddy's contract was a raise over last years pick at that spot by 18 % I believe. That's why he's in camp.

Yes when I was a Theatre Major at UCF I got a couple igh paying jobs in acting out in California. Sure it wasn't 20 million but it was definitely a very large amount of money which I won't get into detail.

I decided there were more important things I needed to take care of like my family who at the time where not in the best of positions.

I also turned down a $60,000 a year job as a PR but chose to stick with the comedy Improv gig I was doing that I was lucky to get $10 a night at.

So yes I can speak morally and call Ronnie selfish. Granted we aren't talking about the same kind of money but I turned down on a couple occasions a very significant increase in pay, or offer but in the end that is not what would have made me happy.

It's not always abou the money. So yes, Ronnie is being selfish, if he wanted to contribute and help the Phins and play Football he would be on the field and accept the offer that ALREADY EXCEEDS THAT OF THE #2 LAST YEAR.

With that said, I like Brown and up until this incident thought he was a class act. He will be a stud, it is just pathetic to hold out for the reason he is holding out for.
 
Frankly, whatever Ronnie Brown makes or wants to make shouldn't be any of our business. We don't have any right to know, however, the NFL is a different animal because of salary cap management. But the fans shouldn't have ill will against a team or a player, because it's not our business. Unless you're grossly overpaid like Reggie Howard ;).

Anyway, the team isn't hurting yet. No reason to flip out.

you can't do that either. you have to get demand the right value. let the team play some hardball with ronnie. We did the same with Lance Shulters, David Boston, and Kevin Carter this offseason. Ronnie deserves it just as much as they do.

But I like how our team isn't simply laying down and letting an agent tell us what the #2 payment is. Why should he decide? So he can hinder this team in terms of how many guys they can sign in the future?

I just read on kffl that braylon Edwards Just sign a contract for 40 million and 18.5 guarenteed.Now we should something happen and get Ronnie here so we can stop bashing and see where our o going to be

You're wrong. The Dolphins are offering him an 8% increase over last year's second overall pick. The problem is that the 9ers were stupid enough to give Alex Smith a nearly 20% increase over the first from last year.
