Why isnt Dion Jordan a legitimate option at OLB?

Exactly we run the wrong scheme for that. Jordan is better suited for that scheme too he would blow up

If Jordan is the freak that everyone keeps saying that he is, then Don Shula would have changed the scheme to take advantage of his skills. The fact that Coyle hasn't either says something about Jordan, or something about Coyle and Philbin.

I think we have to get more creative when it comes to DJ....He could be very effective and disruptive if deployed correctly.

Thank you. This topic is getting as tiresome as the "Why can't Zach be an SS" were a few yrs ago.

The days of a team running a single scheme on D are gone so... Why limit Jordan to just 1 position or role?

Last season, I saw Jordan (w/ a DB) bracket Gronkowski quire effectively as well as line up at DT and blow up a dump off to the RB v the stealers.

If Coyle were really "creative", he could 1) run a Tampa cover 2 w/ Jordan as the Mike who drops into zone coverage. Imagine Brady's frustration at that. 2) Have DJ spy EJ Manuel and Geno Smith.

Shula would not have changed his whole defense for dion Jordan lol. It would all be on what his coordinator runs. Coyle prefers a 4-3

Like I said in my post, it could be saying something about Jordan (that he's not the freak everyone claims him to be) or about Coyle/Philbin (that they are inflexible in their thinking and incapable of taking advantage of the talent their team has).

And why wouldn't have Shula done so?? He changed the entire offense to take advantage of Marino's skill set.

I'd say put him as a OLB on certain plays and have Vernon quickly go to a zone while Jordan rushes. Odrick/Starcks can crash the LT. Moving him around on the field. Let him rush on zone coverages. He can't be as bad as Wheeler.

LOL!

I think he'd be a very good 4-3 SLB. When we drafted him, I tolerated the pick/trade up only because I assumed we'd use him in a role similar to Von Miller (not that he's on that level or even close). Use his length and his unreal ability for a guy in space at that size. That's where he's great, and it's the only area he's great.

He doesn't have the experience playing from a stacked position.. it's totally different diagnosing the play, flowing to the ball, and filling your gap.. and if you play him in an "elephant" role he doesn't have the strength to set the edge of the defense.

If you look at this front 7, it's apparent that they would be better off running a 3-4.

LOLB Cam Wake
LE Randy Starks
NT Earl Mitchell
RE Jared Odrick
ROLB Dion Jordan
ILB Koa Misi
ILB Dannell Ellerbe

you get Jordan on the field, Wheeler off the field, and put Misi and Ellerbe in the best possible situation to succeed.

Brady would throw dump off after dump off to Julian Edelman right underneath Jordan and take gains of 8-15 yards all day until you got out of that defense.. Brady shreds Tampa 2

Here's the assumption again that DJ would be better as an OLB than DE. And I'll say it again: He has the body for a DE and he's fine at DE.

I wish you would comment more. Love hearing your talk in reference to play design.

This ^ how many 6'7 linebackers are there in a 4-3? None. I think the last one was Ted Hendricks decades ago.

Because MArino was the offense and Jordan is not the dominating force that some make him out to be
