Why Not Rol Thill Out?

Look, I hear how athletic Tannehill is. To me, he has a fast 40 time and tahts it. he doesn't move fluidly, isn't quick on his feet. I don't care I want my qb making plays in the pocket and leaving when necessary. but, he isn't Russel, Wilson, or even Alex Smith athletically IMO

Biggest question I have also- if that is a least one of the things he does well or even good why do we not see him use his legs? Omars response to someone who asked was that the coaches do not want him to do it because it limits his throws to half the field. (Which Omar disagreed with).

Roll outs cut off half the field. Tannehill doesn't improvise well and he can't vary trajectory or pace. If we abused roll outs he'd be throwing mindless line drives to a one-receiver option standing flatfooted near the sideline with a defensive back right there.

If anyone worked in those stats offices as I did you would quickly understand that screen passes, fade passes and roll outs are overrated plays.

Russell Wilson doesn't roll out off the snap using standard looks. Seattle sets up the bootleg via frequent power runs with Lynch, with Wilson taking the snap from under center. The Dolphins these days seldom run the ball from under center. I don't know how we could expect a bootleg to work.

Also, Wilson's best runs around the corner often spur from situations that weren't designed that way. He simply has extraordinary instincts and timing. The 3rd down play in overtime last week was an example. Pressure up the middle that Wilson sensed immediately and gave up on the intended pass play, scampering right for a first down. Tannehill never would have made that play. He couldn't have grasped the need to take off, and even if so his leggy lumbering style never would have enabled him to avoid the blitzer.
