Well the deadline for his 5th year option is May 3rd,,,,if we don't extend it, he becomes a free agent in 2015. Even Ocho Cinco or Pac Man Jones couldn't get into trouble in less than a week, right???

Unless our security division knows something of which we are not aware, there's no reason not to lock in one of the best young centers in the league. If Hickey blows this (barring any extenuating circumstances), it will be a real black mark on his first season from my perspective.
I think it's laughable that Pouncey made the Pro Bowl last year, considering we had the worst pass blocking in the league and also one of the worst running games in the league which couldn't move a defensive lineman to save their lives. Pouncey was the least bad of five offensive linemen last year but he made the Pro Bowl based on name alone last year, and his name is as much attributable to his brother as anything else. I'm not saving any of this to act like Pouncey shouldn't be part of this teams future, but I understand why the team hasn't rushed to pick up the option right off the bat. And that's just on field, which doesn't mention that there are some questions about his contribution to a destructive locker room culture and short sighted defense and perhaps even association with an almost certain murderer.
