Why there is no question about Ryan Tannehill and his $17.5 million

That's poor. Rodgers to Stafford is apples to oranges. Rodgers is one of the better QB's in NFL history, of course his impact is greater.

And so you've stated there exactly why the surrounding talent doesn't drive the bus on QBs' career performance. Their own talent does.

Not true. Otherwise Rodgers would have more than a single championship.

We're talking about QBs' individual performance here, and how it varies from year to year and why.

Well then I'm out. QB's don't play football in a vacuum by themselves.

So Manning played elite in '15 now, huh? You're impressed with 9 TDs to 17 INT's?

I believe Manning helped manage that offense as one of the best under center, but his play was far from what you are trying derive from it.

So Kubiak is an elite coach but he's also 72-73 without Manning, how does that work? How about John Fox? He went to two Super Bowls, he must be pretty decent. But without Manning he's 82-94. With Manning he's 46-18. Coincidence? Pete Carrol 47-49 without Wilson. Jason Garrett goes 4-12 the season he had to go without a good QB.

They don't, but how they play individually from year to year, over the course of their careers, is far more a function of their own talent than of what's going on around them.

Never said Kubiak was an elite HC, although he is a great offensive mind.

God I hate addressing ignorance. Carrol's time at USC b/w NFL gigs allowed him to experiment with and finalize his defensive scheme and philosophy. Seahawks have had an elite and top defense ever since his arrival in Seattle. That's where the majority of their success has come from.

Garrett is a nobody. He had Cassel during that 4-12 season, someone in which Belichick went 11-5 with.

Coaching is the biggest difference maker in football. Period.

The Patriots and Packers can both tie the record for consecutive playoff appearances (#coincidences) this season at 9 years consecutive so Football Outsiders looked at what keeps great QBs out of the playoffs.

As long as there is a shortage of top-end quarterback talent, the cream will rise to the top of the standings. When it doesn't, you can usually count on the obstruction being the quarterback's health, a one-game result that didn't go the team's way, or a major team flaw (likely on defense).

So going with #coincidences. The ultimate get out of jail free card. I mean anything can be a coincidence if you put your mind to it.

Rodgers is one of the greatest QB's to play the game and Belichick is the greatest HC in NFL history. WTF is so revealing about this streak?

Of course Rodgers is going to have a greater impact for his team at QB being one of the best ever.

Of course Belichick is going to the playoffs again.

You're a Dolphin's fan, so maybe you've heard about Dan Marino. He probably the best pure passer the league has ever seen. If you're a millennial, google him for highlights. Why isn't he looking like Mr. T with all of those super bowl rings? And don't give me that different era bull crap, it's a team sport no matter which decade you're talking about.

And that major team flaw, "likely on defense," is exactly the one thing that can undermine the performance of an elite QB, because it allows opposing QBs to have their way with the team, and thereby ruins the all-important passer rating differential for the team.

Again, the QB drives the bus, however, because even when you have an elite one, you can't let opposing QBs regularly play at an elite level against your own. That'll make you nothing more than average.

You say this as if no one runs the ball anymore. LOL

Is Dan Marino's individual performance over the course of his career attributable to his own talent, or something else?

Is Dan Marino in the Hall of Fame because of what was going on around him, or because he was simply good in his own right?

That's what we're talking about here in the conversation you're responding to -- how QBs play individually.
