Why was AJ so bad?

I'm not gonna say that Feeley is a bad QB but he is a panzy. I think every game last year he was hurt and he got hurt last night. He needs to toughin up!

are you kidding me??????? I think the exact opposite. Did you watch any games last year?? Feeley was massacred on almost every play. I mean massacred. Last year in one game, Feeley, Fiedler, and Sage were injured from sacks on consecutive plays. Feeley played hurt all year and I respect his toughness. It hurts getting hit all game....especially fromn the blind side. OUCH!!

I admire the tone of your response. That being said, it is still too early to write off AJ completely. AJ led us to two fourth quarter wins last year as he became more comfortable as the starter, one being against the world champs. He did nothing horrible last night. He does look skittish under pressure, but he may still be a little shell shocked form playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in history last year. However, his propensity to hurt his azz is a concern.

I could be 100% wrong, AJ could be a decent Qb...

I'm just saying, from an opponents standpoint, I hope AJ is the starter, because i know we can beat him... (even though he played well in the first half of the 2ns game last time, before we started blitzing him hard. After we brought the heat, he started screwing up)

I think Gus is more likly to make a quick, smart decision if your OL isn't very good, where Feeley is gonna check it into the back of a linemans, or throw a pick.

The O-Line is a much bigger issue than the QBs at this point. The pass blocking and run blocking (which was hideous) must improve for any offensive success this year.

As far as the QBs:

Feeley looked OK when he had time.

Frerotte did a better job of avoiding the rush with dump off passes but he did have the advantage of playing against second stringers when the rush wasn't as nasty as the first couple of series.

If it was a boxing match Frerotte 9 Feeley 8 at the end of round 1.

(As a side note I was more disappointed in the defense than the offense. Weak pass rush and dodgy secondary must be corrected)

If Thompson makes that catch they score a TD in the opening drive. Feeley haters would have nothing to say. (though they would anyway)

Gus looked good. Nothing spectacular, good. The TD pass and the chambers catch could have went either way. He got lucky, but hey sometimes luck is necessary.

Anyone who says Feeley is a pansy didn't watch the dolphins play last year.

Why was he bad? Because "over reaction" are the words of the day.

I agree. I did think Ferrotte looked better, but I think he had more chances to do things - and his receivers made amazing catches, while Feeley fell victim to Thompson's drop (side note: If Thompson makes the team over Boston, I'll be :fire: ). I'd like to see Feeley play a few more series before I cast an '05 judgement.

That said, Ferrotte clearly is more comfortable right now, and seems to have a nack for getting away from defenders (something our QBs will need to do this year). And, if neither is going to be the QB of the future, Ferrotte is the better guy for the time being, as he'll make a few more plays which may lead to one or two more wins.

Bottom line, it's still too early!

R U Kidding Me?

I can't believe this question is even being asked ...

The answer:

HE STINKS! He really is nothing more than an average to below average QB ... AT BEST!

Gus F. is an average QB & you could tell the difference between the two. Granted, Frerote knows the offense better, but A.J. looked like a rookie right out of college.

I do understand that preseason games should be taken with a grain of salt, but he is just awful. He made one good throw that was dropped, but his pocket awareness is sickening.

Our O-line looked bad & Manny Wright needs a one-way ticket out of Miami. That fat lazy slob quit on several pays!

I am very worried about our O-line ... but it is only the first game.

All this talk is irrelevant though ... Frerote will be the starter barring injury.

Notice to all "homers" ... open up your eyes to what this guy (AJ) really is .... a backup at best!

There was a thread a while back regarding Tim Couch ... many members were on the AJ bandwagon saying he is a much better option than Couch.

Hear me now ... IF, & it is a huge IF, Couch is healthy we would be nuts not to take a look at him. He is way better than AJ & is still a young guy that has a ton of game experience under his belt. Plus he should come dirt cheap.

I normally wouldn't even think twice after the 1st preseason game, but he is still sooooo skitish in the pocket. All signs are he is NOT progressing.

We need to start looking elsewhere!

For me personally I think Feeley has two major problems. First he locks onto a reciever, we have heard all camp that he has been doing it and he did it tonight. Second he needs to learn how to move in the pocket. I dont care how horrible your O-Line is you should be able to make the first guy miss a lot of the time. Not only does moving in the pocket not get you killed but also gives the reciever time to get downfield.

While I do think we will start to look better as time goes on, I dont think we seen half of the offense that we are going to see when the season starts. I think we will see a lot of play action pass. It seemed when the 1st team was in everytime they went to hand off the ball there were 8 players or 9 players on the line. Get that PA pass working and let chris burn them deep a couple times that will stop real quick. All of this is going to make Feeley more comfortable. Not to mention ITS PRESEASON!!! If this is the worst we play all year I'll be extremely happy.

EDIT: Looked to me like we should have drafted Orton like I said before that draft and most people thought I was crazy. I realize he only played against the 3rd and 4th teams but he still made a lot of nice passes.

The OL wasn't that bad. Not as bad as last year at least, IMO.
Are you kidding me? that's because you were facing a bears D that isn't all that. Wait til you have to face a lb that wouldn't miss that almost safety hit on Gus. Your qb's were getting hit too much.

AJ was lucky that he got away with nothing than a sore a$$. Did you see Urlacher reaction? He was pissed he wasn't able to get a clean hit when he was going for AJ's head on that play. If this keeps up, Sage or Berlin will be your starting qb by the time regular season comes.

The O-line was good...the running backs pass protection was HORRID....learn the game before commenting. The lineman were taking care of their business.
Puhlease. You already have an injured qb and he was barely on the field. Your qb's are as flat footed as Drew. Although your team was running basic O , the bears were running basic D's and aren't one of the best blitzing teams in the NFL. By the time Gus went in he wasn't facing the bears no. 1. :shakeno:

Are you insane he got tuffed by an untouched urlacher, who said himself he didn't even get touched coming up the middle, he didn't slow down at all and completely crushed him, he knocked him right out of his shoes for cryin' out loud and this after a corner came in untouched and hit at a 100 miles an hour earlier, when they couldn't even setup a screen play for feeley to dump the ball of too, atleast he got rid of ball on that one and seen him coming. Why is our O-line so useless, we should ask if we could just get 5 concrete pillars for an offensive line atleast then they would have to run around them and not just push them aside like cabbage patch kids. Our run defense could use some work too Thomas Jones scorched them, they looked lease than stellar once again.

He does need better pocket prescence. That being said...Feeley looked pretty good contrary to what all the chicken littles are posting.

PRetty good?? What?.. about his whole game time was pretty good?? that he didn't have a pick 6? C'mon..FRERROTTE did pretty good...Feeley did bad.

If Feely has adequate time and his primary receiver is open, he's OK. That won't happen very much with our team. At this point, Frerotte is just better. Just because Gus backed up Culpepper, doesn't mean he's not starting material. Culpepper is one of the better QB's in the league. Give Gus a chance.
