Why Was Matt Moore Signed by Miami?

You also seemed to quote everybody but the Owner, so here is what I remember:
You seemed to not read my post because I clearly quoted Stephen Ross, THE OWNER, from March 21st.

http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...ss-says-chad-henne-will-have-competition.html

So that is certainly not what the owner presented to the public. So again, was Matt Moore not the most viable competition brought in here? Therefore why is it wrong to assume Moore has a shot to unseat Henne?
"I know that. If he’s the best guy that we can find to put in that position, and he’s demonstrated that, I have no problem with that.”

Apparently they feel Henne is the best guy they can find.

This is going to be their 4th season, and Henne is the best guy they can find . . .

You cannot defend that level of idiocy.

I am not defending the choice to remain with Henne, I just think the perception among the fans that we were promised competition or an upgrade is not necessarily true. Seems like their plan all along was to improve the team around Henne.

Wasn't meant as a counter. Just a blurb of frustration. It appears you're right.

I think Mike Nolan is a better coach than his record in San Francisco shows. I think the man had too much, too soon in SF and just wasn't equipped to handle it.

This is probably true. I am sure he learned a lot from his time there.

This team has not went after one decent QB since Marnio retired. Not one. Never. Can you name even one that was decent? that could be considered a good above average NFL QB not past there prime? What makes you think next year will be any different?

Trust me, I am not sticking-up for ALL of the head coaches and GM's since Shula who passed on QB's. They all failed miserably! I do think we have an owner now that will push for a "franchise" QB in the draft. We all know Wayne H. didn't get involved in the football side. I just do not see Ross sitting back and letting this go much further.

And please do not mention Orton. I like Orton, and would have liked him for the right price, but I didn't want his contract to strap this team for the future so I am glad we passed.

I get that you are not defending their choice to remain with Henne, and I am not bashing Henne. But, we needed to add two QB's, not by choice but it was a need. And even if the FO may have never said publicly they needed to upgrade or provide competition for Henne, it was obvious to everyone else that we needed to try to get better QB play.

A little off subject but ths thread made me think that in the hisory of our franchise we have had only two great QB's, Griesie (the greastest game manager ever, which is significant because he played in a ball controll era) and Marino (The greatest passer ever). And I started to feel like, damn that's effed up, really, only two, and the rest of our QB's have all been average at best. Then I realized that most NFL teams, post mereger, have only had one, or two franchise QB's. Which means they are pretty rare. i just hope we find one soon...

During Moore's 09 hotstreak where in 5 starts he won half of Carolina's total games, he beat ultimate division champs MN and NO, in the midst of them fighting for the title and home team advantage (and you know how Brees and Favre did that year, right?) and he beat Brady's 10-6 Cheatriots. He booked a 98QBR and in only had several games where he threw zero interceptions and a couple of TDs.

So this dismissal that he plays well against the JV really has little traction *(unless you consider 2 deep in the playoff/SB teams and the PATS and Giants D as "JV"), whether he ends up regaining the form he had displayed with a mediocre team or not.
Your info is off a little bit.

First, Moore lost to the Patriots, but the Patriots were home with Brady as the starter, and Brady hasn't lost a home game since 2006.

Second, the game against the Saints was the last game of the 2009 season, where he played against backups, as the starters were resting. Moore played well, but it was against backups.

The Giants D was pretty bad in 2009; the two players competing for the safety job were CC Brown, now with the Lions, and Aaron Rouse, now in the UFL. Both were awful. Regardless, he did lead his team to a 41-9 victory, which is still really good.

Uh Nubs, in that very article Ross says this:

“We’re going to have the best team that we can put on the field. I don’t know what might happen,” Ross said. “He’ll be competing with someone, I know that. If he’s the best guy that we can find to put in that position, and he’s demonstrated that, I have no problem with that.”

You creatively edited that statement.

Now how as a fan am I not supposed to get the impression that the owner intends for Chad Henne to have competition?

That being the case, Matt Moore is certainly the only real competition on this team right now.

Well not quite, the Giants defense was actually 13th ranked in 2009, hardly bottom of the barrell, and much higher than the Dolphin defense that year.

He also had a very impressive victory over a real good Vikings team that year, so all in all it was an impressive stretch where this kid displayed a consistency that Henne has never shown.

I meant in terms of points allowed per game, not yards. The Giants allowed 26.7 points per game that year, which bested only Detriot and St. Louis.

But yes, you're right about the Vikings game. He shredded the Vikings, who were fighting the Saints for the #1 seed.

I use to write in this forum all the time. I lived and died by it. And when the split came I was on both sites night and day. I would've walked into the locker room, called Henne into the office, and said " Moore is starting next week. You need to be kicked in the *** and this guy is kicking your ***. Goodnight."

How do you figure? They tried to trade for Orton and that wasn't to bring in Orton as a backup.

No, they wanted to replace Henne but couldn't get Orton so now they're trying to sell us on Henne as a starter.

Much like the Sparano situation. They tried to replace him with Harbaugh but couldn't and now they're trying to sell us fans on the idea that Sparano is their legit choice as head coach.

I for one want to see Matt Moore with the 1st team starting this week. I think he's slightly better than Henne.

And frankly, it has seemed like this post-Tuna regime never had a viable plan from day 1. And that started with chasing Harbaugh and then going back to Tony - and it continued in the draft - moved on to the Orton circus - and now there is no discernible plan for Henne/Moore. This FO is lost.

What savior QB was available for Miami to bring in to push Henne this off season? Orton - average and Elway overpriced, Kolb - huge ? mark and price, Hasselbeck - like a tire plug you still need a new tire and everyone else was garbage.

If Henne improves then so be it, if Moore wins the position then good for him and the front office comes away with a win by signing him and in the slim chance the Devlin develops into a starting caliber NFL QB then it is the find of the decade and if he doesn't he provides you with the depth to move on from Henne next season if he flounders again this year.

All the fans that are up in arms for a QB never seem to have a reasonable solution to the problem, they just say fix it. When a reasonable solution comes along I would hope if this QB quagmire is still a problem Ireland fixes it and if he doesn't then he deserves to be fired.

I am still holding on to the notion that this ****ing thing works itself out this season but I will say one thing if Henne flounders or loses his spot to Moore you will never hear this fan say he needs anyhting other then to be cut.

A few "reasonable" solutions that these idiots chose not to execute:

1) Draft Matt Ryan vs. a Cornfed LT
2) Elect to NOT spend anyone of FOUR number one draft picks on the most important position in all of sports; choosing instead to play against the odds
3) Actively make every effort to trade for an up and coming QB (i.e. Flynn, Josh Johnson, Kolb) at whatever the cost.
4) Trading UP to draft a RB (Thomas) when it's THE most expendable position on the field and NOT take a shot at Mallet

These idiots value Cornfed O/D Line and bruising backs that run 4.6 40's like it's still 1983. It will be their undoing as we have another losing season and they all get flushed out the door.
