Why Was Matt Moore Signed by Miami?

Agree, however I think Ross may have learned his lesson trying to land big-name coaches. I could see Ross promoting Nolan to HC and keeping everything else in place. I love Nolan as a defensive coordinator but have to admit, I'd be concerned with him as head coach after his time with the 49ers.

I think Mike Nolan is a better coach than his record in San Francisco shows. I think the man had too much, too soon in SF and just wasn't equipped to handle it.

Cheap, and to be honest, I think he can beat out Henne. I have tried to support Henne through all this but it is getting real hard to believe he can be a true #1 in the NFL.

I think this regime is looking to get one of the big 2 coming out in the draft next year, and knowing this, did not want to sign Orton to a long term mega deal. Now that early draft picks do not present a huge financial burden on teams, I can see us doing whatever it takes to move up to grab one of these guys in next years draft. We shall see.

This team has not went after one decent QB since Marnio retired. Not one. Never. Can you name even one that was decent? that could be considered a good above average NFL QB not past there prime? What makes you think next year will be any different?

We needed to bring in 2 qb's all along. One to compete with Henne for the starting job, and another to be the third stringer. The gm failed at getting a qb that was good enough to compete for the top job. They went after Moore to backup Henne, because we had no one else. The problem is that Henne has done very little to distinguish himself from his backup, aguy that should have been our 3rd stringer.

Youre half right. We indeed needed to bring in 2 QBs. But, the idea of one of them being some kind of competition for Henne is nonsense. Anyone who is merely competition for Henne isnt a starting caliber QB at all. A starting caliber QB would blow Henne away.

So yes, we needed to bring in 2 QBs. We needed to bring in one to be a starter and another to be our backup. Any FO with more than half a clue wouldve gotten Henne off this entire roster already. He shouldve been traded for whatever offer we could get. If no one offered so much as a 7th rounder, which of course its possible no one would do so, then he shouldve been outright cut.

Yeah, I don't think he should have even been kept on as the 2rd QB.

Matt Ryan looked good last night huh.

No offense, but I a more than "half right." I know from your posts that you do not believe Henne is the answer, but in your post you are discussing what you would have done asGM/coach,and that's fine. I was discussing what our Gm/coach actually did, or more accurately, what they were trying to do. I get that you don't agree with their choice, and neither do I.

Probably don't have enough time in preseason for Henne to lose his starting spot, but if he doesn't improve fast we will see Moore taking significant snaps this year. Frankly I remain at a loss for words on our QB situation after how poorly Henne played last year.

While I don't specifically recall the FO or coaches saying they would look for starting QB competition, wouldn't any NFL caliber FO demand at least one potential starting QB talent be brought in?? Not only didn't we draft a starting caliber QB talent (whether it be this year or longer term), but we sign a QB that could not start for the worst team in football. Say what you will about the draftees or free agents available, but I guarantee you there are multiple with better long term potential than Matt friggen Moore.

I don't believe Matt Moore can be the long term answer for us. He might eventually beat out Henne, but it's not saying much because I don't think Henne has much chance to ever be anything more poor to mediocre NFL QB.

Truly hope I'm wrong and Henne breaks out or Moore comes out of nowhere to lead us to the playoffs. I'd be the first to personally apologize at the end of this year for my lack of confidence. Sadly, I'm guessing it won't be necessary.

The thing is, were we ever really told from the team that they would bring in competition for Henne? I don't think we really were, in fact we told exactly what is going on right now. I think the "Competition for Henne" was created by the fans and media and took on a life of it's own. I think Henne was always the plan.

Didn't really sound like anyone in the front office talked about replacing or even finding someone to compete with him. The plan all along appeared to improve the team around Henne and give him more weapons. They added Clyde Gates, Charles Clay, Mike Pouncey, Marc Colombo, Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush. They are attempting to solidify the interior line, re-did the running back position and added speed with Gates and Bush, which was really lacking last season.

I know everyone says that Miami failed to live up to the promise of adding a QB to overtake or compete with Henne, but my question is, when did THEY actually say that? Not sure they did.

And yet they clearly went after Orton, which certainly was not to be a backup and defeats your argument.

You also seemed to quote everybody but the Owner, so here is what I remember:

“We’re going to have the best team that we can put on the field. I don’t know what might happen,” Ross said. “He’ll be competing with someone, I know that. If he’s the best guy that we can find to put in that position, and he’s demonstrated that, I have no problem with that.”

http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...ss-says-chad-henne-will-have-competition.html

So that is certainly not what the owner presented to the public. So again, was Matt Moore not the most viable competition brought in here? Therefore why is it wrong to assume Moore has a shot to unseat Henne?

What savior QB was available for Miami to bring in to push Henne this off season? Orton - average and Elway overpriced, Kolb - huge ? mark and price, Hasselbeck - like a tire plug you still need a new tire and everyone else was garbage.

If Henne improves then so be it, if Moore wins the position then good for him and the front office comes away with a win by signing him and in the slim chance the Devlin develops into a starting caliber NFL QB then it is the find of the decade and if he doesn't he provides you with the depth to move on from Henne next season if he flounders again this year.

All the fans that are up in arms for a QB never seem to have a reasonable solution to the problem, they just say fix it. When a reasonable solution comes along I would hope if this QB quagmire is still a problem Ireland fixes it and if he doesn't then he deserves to be fired.

I am still holding on to the notion that this ****ing thing works itself out this season but I will say one thing if Henne flounders or loses his spot to Moore you will never hear this fan say he needs anyhting other then to be cut.

Matt Moore was signed as a backup and THATS IT if he becomes a starter that's just sad for you guys for him to start over ANYBODY!

We signed Moore for the reason we sign all free agents,.....they used to play in Dallas!

If Moore gets to automatically be the 2nd quarterback with no competition, why doesn't Devlin get a chance to compete for 2nd position. I think Devlin has far better potential then Moore, just got to give him a chance. Why not let Devlin play at least one full quarter (and not in the scrub 4th quarter) in the next preseason game...better yet, let him play 2 quarters like they let Moore play. Devlin needs to get the feel of the game, then he will get better fast. He never will get it if they only let him play 4 minutes a game.

Yes they did go after Orton but the talks fell apart when Orton started asking for STARTER money. The Dolphins balked. My argument still stands.
