Wonder why they didn't sign Braylon.. on the surface, that would have made more sense than most of the others on that list.
The one thing that stuck with me was Jeff Ireland interviewing Braylon Edwards when he came to Dolphins camp a few weeks ago. Ireland asked him who his guy was- his go to guy, the person that he counted on above all others- iirc for advice, encouragement, etc.- and Edwards said Rex Ryan. Not smart, and who knows what happened, but he wasn't signed and imo we could have used him. There was something either confrontational, passive aggressive, stupid or all of the above regarding the Rex Ryan comment made from Edwards to Ireland. And my guess is that Ireland thought to himself, ok screw you Braylon, next...
We could have used Edwards now that Chad Johnson got run out of town, despite being listed as a starter and with a BIG assist from his wife. The overhanging legal/court issues were huge imo, and unlike most I wasn't thrilled with how Philbin handled the dismissal. His comment about how the dismissal wasn't a head coach power play- a lie, at least in part. Chad, I know that you;ll bounce back, do well, etc. - a flat out patronizing lie. I kind of like Philbin, but I'm hardly sold on him yet.
As to the WR core- when the two WRs on your roster who are condidered "sure things" are Davone Bess and Brian Hartline- you've got problems. My guess as to the WRs that will make the final roster:
Naane
Bess
Pruitt
Hogan
Fuller
Gates
Hartline to the PUP, Rishard Mathews to the PS.
Bess and Hartline imo remain a commitment to mediocrity and are an indictment of the crapitude of the group as a whole. Pruitt has earned a spot and can play the slot. Hogan is very physically talented and by most reports can flat out play. Take a chance on talent with a guy who is producing regularly in camp. Fuller- if I'm going to go with a big bodied WR I prefer Fuller over Wallace, plus Fuller knows both the offense and Tannehill well, and that gives him the edge.
Despite all of the bs that I've read on this site to the contrary, Johnson was listed as a starter because he was one of the quickest, fastest and most talented WRs out there. Naane is healthy now and has been consistently listed as a starter. The emergence of the 6-4 Naane makes the 6-4 Wallace less appealing imo, especially if Fuller makes another push. We need guys who can separarate, and I'd rather roll the bones on Gates that stick with Wallace.
