Wide Receivers, who makes it?

I am hoping we have room to keep six myself. That includes the practice squad of course. After what happened last year... I would feel much better about our depth at the possition if we keep six.
We should. Wanny for some reason liked to keep 8 LBs, but Saban won't need that many. Plus, you eliminate an extra DE, or OL and you can fit in 6. I would like to keep 4 RBs also.

I am with you on keeping 4 backs as well. We are very deep there and that is never a bad thing.

I too agree with NUB although I think Mann and Davis will make it to the final cut.

I was thinking about this very topic last night, good thread.

Usually from past teams, we keep 5 WRs. However, I wouldn't be suprised to see Saban keep 6 this year just because of the quality players we have for depth. This is what I see:

WR1: Chris Chambers
WR2: Marty Booker
WR3: David Boston
WR4: Derrius Thompson
WR5: Wes Welker
WR6: Bryan Gilmore(If we keep 6 he stays, otherwise he gets cut)

They seem to be trying to include Wes in the passing game more then just having him as a Kick/Punt Returner. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

This should be exactly how the Wr's roster will look.

Speaking of Welker, they sure are using him a lot in practice, and today he totally laid out for a bomb thrown a little too far from BROCK BERLIN. Brock acted like he just won the SB, running down field meeting Wes half way back.

Keeping 8 LBs has to be one of the dumbest roster moves Wanny's eved made. It's great to have depth, but his reasoning for those extra guys was ST coverage.

Yeah...Wes looked really good today in the sat practice. He layed out for that bomb like it was SB time. Mostly though he was running routes over the middle. He's one of those receivers who can go full speed through the traffic, and they have been giving him routes that either stop quick or double back. With his Change of direction quickness he really brings those routes alive. he'll never be a deep ball threat, but he looks good as a possesion receiver over the middle. YAC BABY!!

When you say routes over the middle, quite often those routes are deep. He has plenty of speed to be a deep threat, and given the fact that he will be the punt return man, they might not want him to always be in the middle taking big hits.

There are lots of different routes in this offense, and what I see is all the Wr's taking turns running short, middle and deeper routes. It makes them pretty interchangable. Even the TE's are down field a lot.

I really hope we keep Gilmore. He did some nice things last season. I think Gilmore can get the job done especially since he plays ST.

I think this year we will more likely carry 5 or 6 LB's With 2 that have the ability to play in the 2 and 3 point stance. At least that is what I am hoping. Which would free up and extra spot at the WR and RB/FB possition.

I think it should be:

Chambers
Booker
Boston
Thompson
Welker
Gilmore

if we keep 6 WR's. I think Welker makes it as return man if nothing else. If they only keep 5, I see the main battle as being between Gilmore and Thompson.

Disclaimer: this is based on what I've seen in previous seasons, + read about this camp. I haven't attended any practices to observe anything for myself.

I think WR is one of the positions where you can have a whole bunch of people. They're needed on special teams as well and you can have up to 5 on the field at one time, wouldn't be surprised if we kept at least 7 WR's.

I can already tell you Mann will not make the team based on his performance so far.

Newson has a shot at making it, but I'd give the edge to Josh Davis if the 2 ended up battling for a roster spot. (Hell when Gus was on the field half the time he threw to Davis before he would even look at our big 3).
I thought people were saying Mann was having an amazing camp so far

I read that, but don't agree. He might have had an amazing practice or two, but he also stunk it up for two practices, dropping a few passes, and missing some assignments. He is kind of built like Moss though, a little tall and skinny legs. :D

WR6: Bryan Gilmore

thats all we need.
