Wide Receivers, who makes it?

Look for a trade

Chambers
Booker
Boston/Thompson - One of these will be dealt
Gilmore
Welker

If a team loses a #1 or #2 receiver during TC, I suspect Miami will deal Boston or Thompson. Of course the team losing a receiver in TC could be Miami!

I think this year we will more likely carry 5 or 6 LB's With 2 that have the ability to play in the 2 and 3 point stance. At least that is what I am hoping. Which would free up and extra spot at the WR and RB/FB possition.

it'll be interesting to see on the big O and the big D how many of each we keep.

On the D because Saban has made the half 2 of the DE (taylor and bowens) also OLB but Im sure they'll be listed at DE(DL) and the DTs are also DE (all except Traylor and Chester)...even Wright and Vickerson can play some DE in this defense.

LB I see 5 so far....CB there's no telling he may try to keep 5 or even 6 (although unlikely)....and S I see only 4 with at least one on the practice squad which mean someone we know will get cut from the S (someone like Bua or Tillman) with Eiland or Hunt or both making the PS.

On the BIG "O"
I'm hoping for 4 RB with minor or morris being traded and hopefully Kay-Jay makes the PC without being signed off of it by someone like Jacksonville.

FB only Evans makes it as a true FB and he'll play mostly H-back since Linehan doesn't use a true FB in his offense...that leaves Martin being cut or traded (I'll always mention traded whether we can get something for them or not)

WR I think we'll only keep 5 but it could be anywhere from even 4 all the way to 6 on the active roster.

TE\H-Back...I'm not going to count Evans because he might just be listed as a RB on the final Depth Chart making it 5 that we keep possibly (hopefully)..so this is where I think we get suprised..counting Perry I think we keep 5 (so 4 if you leave Perry just on ST). I know that seems like a lot but Linehan kept that many on his roster last year and LOVES to run the 2 TE or 1 TE and 1 H-Back package. I think we'll see a lot of 1RB, 2TE, and 2 WR sets.

Oline I don't know what he'll want but I think it's 6 here with so many playing multiple positions (something Saban doesnt' mention when he talks about moving guys around) but because of injuries it's hard not to keep 7 active. There will likely be 2 on the PC

All that said, my breakdown likely has too many on the PS....I didn't count it up. There's just no telling until Saban actually says something and\or the cuts start coming. I claim NO actual knowledge of what's going to happen with this roster. :D But I sure do like to write :rofl3:

I agree with 99% of what you stated. I am just hoping(In the back of my mind right now) that we do keep 5 WR on the active list. I know it's rare(for us anyway) but, I would like to see linehan toss out a 5 wide at some point. The only reason I state this is because we havne't signed Brown yet. Once we sign Brown, I will be fine with keeping 4(my preference is still 5) active WR's on the roster and 1 on the practice squad.

Just call it Blitphinfans' security blanket. I need my blanky! ;)

I was thinking about this very topic last night, good thread.

Usually from past teams, we keep 5 WRs. However, I wouldn't be suprised to see Saban keep 6 this year just because of the quality players we have for depth. This is what I see:

WR1: Chris Chambers
WR2: Marty Booker
WR3: David Boston
WR4: Derrius Thompson
WR5: Wes Welker
WR6: Bryan Gilmore(If we keep 6 he stays, otherwise he gets cut)

They seem to be trying to include Wes in the passing game more then just having him as a Kick/Punt Returner. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

Well, in the past we used alot more dual back sets. This offense will really utilize spread formations. We'll go to 4 and sometimes 5 wide sets. We're going to need 7 wr's. Yes, you heard it here first. We'll only keep one true fullback in evans and Sammy Morris will be able to play both Halfback and Fullback. This offense uses h-backs as well so don't be shocked if we only keep 2 TE's and Perry for long snapping.

As far as Welker, Saban has said time and time again that he doesnt keep players STRICTLY for special teams (as opposed to Wanny who freaking DRAFTED strictly for special teams, so long Eddie Moore) so IF Welker is going to be our KR/PR then he is going to HAVE to be able to be the 6th or 7th Wide Receiver.

Frankly, I'm more excited about our two new young WR's, Evans and I forget the other one, than I am of Gilmore and Thompson. We'll know a lot more once the hitting begins in pre-season, but I'd be thrilled if we got ANY of the following:

1) David Boston back to a SERVICEABLE form. Right now he's not running like a speed guy and while he's made a few catches, he's made a few drops as well.

2) Marty Booker playing like at his former Pro Bowl level. He is genuinely not happy here and his effort reflects that.

3) Derrius Thompson and Brian Gilmore, get to the next level of your development or get out of the way for speed, youth and exhuberance. Both of these guys don't do enough things right to be called reliable, and yet do just enough to be better than the rest. Personally, I believe that potential gets coaches fired. If they don't take the next level in this wide open offense, they never will. Evans and the other new guy are tearing up camp. Give them a chance if it's more of the same from Thompson and Gilmore.

4) Chambers lives up to his potential. The man's a great receiver... sometimes. There are plays where he seems destined for Canton and entire games where his game just doesn't cut it. He needs consistancy.

Those are my thoughts.

GO PHINS!!!!!!
