will jt be back in 06?

with a cap figure like jt i think his days could be numbered.would he be willing to restructure or take the risk of being traded or perhaps cut in a FEW years .i think saban will do what he thinks is right his popularity to the fams and his teamates are key but its nicks team now and no one can change that

So what kinda cap number does he have next year? How does that translate into his days being numbered?

If Roth pans out and Crowder pan out we can use Jt nad ZT as trade bait. NOting last s 4 ever. we get new blood. we can get a good draft if we can trade these players so really i care if there gone but its best for the team. Saban knows wat hes doing so i say Watever he says

Would be very surprised if JT isn't with team assuming he still can get to the QB. Next years cap hit for JT only increases by around $500,000 (2.25 mill salary increase - 1.75 mill estimated amoritized bonus reduction). And trading him will save us only about 1 million against the cap. Maybe Clumpy can check the numbers, but believe they are close.

Of topic, but Zach could be the one under the gun. His cap hit goes up by 1.5 million. But getting only $300,000 cap savings by trading ZT will probably keep him around.

How does trading JT next year save us money against the cap? What I dont like is all the dead cap we would be sitting on. And that depends on when we trade him. If we traded him, I would assume it would be before the draft so we could have picks to use, that would mean we traded him before June 1st and we would haveto take the cap hit in the upcoming year. 7-8 million in dead cap doesnt sound too great to me...

JT and ZT will both be asked to take paycuts. Based on their past, I believe they will. They also have leverage if they say no. What will we do if they say no? Trade them and take on all the dead cap from their contracts? We are not going to flat out cut them.

Hence why I dont think a complete switch to a 3-4 will happen for at least 2 more years. After 2 more years, the rookies we draft to play in the 3-4 will have a year of playing time under their belt and the cap hit for JT and ZT will be minimal. JT's salary escalates GREATLY to 7 million in 2007, 7.5 in 08, and 8 million in 2009. He needs to restructure. Same goes with Zach and his salary escalating in 2007.

JT's 2006:
$7,050,000 cap hit (5.25 salary, 1.8 estimated amoritized bonus)
- $6,000,000 2006 dead money from pre 6/1 trade
= $1,050,000 cap savings

Agree with you JT won't be cut/traded in 2006. And don't think we'll restructure unless we're in serious cap hell because his cap hit is 6.53 mill this year and that's not a big jump to 7.05 next year. Hopefully can wait until 2007 to restructure (8.4 cap hit, 7 mill salary + 1.4 mill bonus) because the league may not even have a salary cap in 2007. Isn't that when the current agreement with the union expires?

Think Zach definately will be asked to restucture his 1.5 mill cap hit increase in 2006. Hope everything works out and ZT stays in Miami!

Edit: JT's 2006 dead money came from his 9.5 mill total this year minus the 3.5 mill charged to this years cap.

Technically, yes, in 2007 the agreement expires. Theres no way in h-e-double hockeysticks that we play a season with no cap. They will get the agreement ammended or extended before the 2007 season.

Also althought technically you might get around a 1 mil savings for JT, you still have that 6 million in dead cap to accout for. Thats something that people dont understand when suggesting certain things, like Madison being traded last year or ZT being traded this year.

You would therefore save 1 million on the cap, but add 6 million in dead cap and lose a player of JT's caliber and then need to sign a DE to take his place. The overall math of that situation is not a positive one. It would overall hurt the salary cap and you would lose a player of his caliber and probably be replacing him with someone less talented.

It is amazing how eager we are to trade our absolute best players banking on younger panning out. Taylor and Thomas are the reasons why our 'D' has been so competitive for the past years. I know that we are all fans of the team, but these two have been loyal to the team and the cause throughout their careers. You have never heard either one complain about money or anything. The least we can do is show them some loyalty as well. They retire Dolphins. I would hate to see those guys in another uniform.

JT will be back... you look at teams that use a 3-4 and they all need a 'hybrid'. The Ravens had Boulware and Suggs, the 'Boys have now got Ware, the Chargers have Merriman.

JT is our hybrid... he aint going anywhere kwik.
