I have faith in Philbin.

No one is perfect but he has many years experience coaching and has respect amongst the league.

I think he can learn from his mistakes and I believe our team will be better prepared this year...

I think after week 8 of next season we will see whether Coach Philbin has what it takes to be the coach of the Fins.

100%

I'd lose faith in the players too after the 10th time they got negative yards on a 3rd and 1.

Then design better plays and quit with the stupid run run/run crap that tells the defense what is going on.

I disagree. What's wrong with somebody seeing the negatives/positives and choosing to hope for the best and get excited about the possibilities the new season brings?

Feel free to temper away, but don't assume to speak for the whole.

I've been excited and been let down before...doesn't matter...has no impact on my life...so I'll continue to be hopeful for my team and expect great things. Isn't that what a fan's supposed to do?
With that concept I guess you would have been happy if Ireland would have stayed. Just blindly pull for them, overlook their mistakes, and hope for the best? At what point does mistakes outweigh the chance that they MAY in the future become better at what they do??

Can't say I agree fully, though there is certainly room for question marks on the OL. I just have a strong feeling the Albert/Thomas left side combo is going to gel well. We're definitely at a shortage at center, no matter how you cut it...you can't go from pro-bowler to "who is that guy" and expect the same outcome. Shelley is a slight improvement over Jerry to me, and James will do better than last year's RT results, I just hope he gets to that level quick instead of needing the whole season.

One major piece of the OL that everybody seems to keep forgetting, or ignoring, is the coach. Does he not factor in?
You see Shelley, last years next to last rated OG in the entire league in pass blocking as an upgrade to Jerry?? If you are really being serious then why do you not see Tyler Lawson as being an upgrade over Pouncey?? I mean if we are leaving reality on a fantasy, why not make em big? While we're at it, why not rate Gator Hoskins as a significant upgrade over Clay?? Or why not buy a magic rabbit that poops out winning lottery tickets?? In fantasy worlds anything can happen....

if the players need Joe Philbin to motivate them when they have a shot at the playoffs, then we need new players. for true winners, it's not all about the money. do you think Tom Brady only wants to win so he doesn't lose millions of dollars? do you really think he needs a pep-talk from BB to play his best?
I understand where you're coming from and a true leader of men is a great thing, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. There are plenty of successful NFL coaches with a similar demeanor to Joe Philbin. Tom Landry, Bill Walsh and Tony Dungy come to mind.
I agree, those coaches you mention do have similiar demeanors, but they are no where near the same type of leaders. I agree there are different ways to lead, some do it loudly others with a quiet confidence. I see neither in Philbin, but that is just my opinion. Hope I'm wrong, but I really don't think I am.

Lazor on the other hand is a much better leader. You could see it the first time you heard him talk. Then watching him coach during mini camp made a believer out of me. I believe Lazor would be a better HC THIS year than Philbin.

We have upgraded our GM, our OC (New system), our O-line (Albert! James!), DB's and possibly our running back. We have an exciting player in Landry, with the return of Gibson as well.
All these things I hope will see us in the playoffs this year.
But was it enough? I see Philbin as neutral in the equation of getting to the SB.
In your opinion, does he help or hurt our effort this year?

You have him as neutral but you allow no neutral option in your poll.

I might have chosen neutral, instead of hurts us, and that would have been generous on my part. But I'm willing to go there and assume he won't derail our team like he has in the past by hiring Turner and Sherman, moving Martin from RT to LT, telling Incognito to toughen up JMart, allowing bullygate to blow up, being tonedeaf to his players, firing all the veterans, telling Sherman to abandon the running game, failing to develop Ryan Tannehill (up to this point), and allowing a late season collapse like I've never seen in the history of our team.

If you seriously think an OL of Albert, Thomas, Brenner, Shelley, and James is better than Martin, Richie, Pouncey, Jerry, and Claybo, then you are going to be in for a big surprise come week one. Our OL is CONSIDERABLY WORSE than it was this time last year, NOT better.

lol no

He sucks, I am not a fan of him at all. Any coach who lets their OC run the offense the way he did last year and give out the go, go go's and NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, shows how poor of a coach he is. Hopefully hes out this year, promote Lazor!

Let's see what Lazor actually brings to the table first.

The problem is that if Lazor is that good, he is going to save Philbin's ass...our moron owner won't be able to separate in his mind the contribution between Lazor and Philbin. If we do so bad that Phibin goes, Lazor will probably be gone right along with him.

We don't know that...yet.

Martin and Jerry flat our sucked. Incoginito is VERY overrated around here. Claybo sucked bad at the beginning of the year.

Albert is a clear upgrade over Martin. We definitely have a loss with Pouncey though. Thomas may be better than Jerry (I know not same position...). That leaves Shelley and James compared to Incognito and Clabo. I don't know enough about Shelley and James at this point, so your argument may be valid, but I also don't think it would take much to improve over Incognito and Clabo. We will see...

Do you think the last 2 games were on the players, or the game prep and hafltime adjustments?

I feel we started this offseason with a lot of up ticks, I'm just wondering with the last 2 games, if Joe is a full sail or an anchor.

I blame the players and the coaches for the collapse. I don't give a **** if you brought Lombardi back from the dead, he could not make people want to win. He can show them how, but he cannot do the work for them. Those two last games were more a look at what we have as players. Not what we have as a coach. IMHO.
The players quit on us those last two games. Pure and simple.

I am not certain Philbin is the right guy or not. I hope he is.

And whats the big ****ing deal about the guy being neat and orderly? Personally I am the same way.
When we hired for our company, we would check out the possible employees car to see if he was a pig or not.

In every single case where the guys car was a pig sty, the guy was a ****ty employee and never lasted.
On the other hand, the guys that had their car clean and orderly, always turned out okay.
Seems what some around here call OCD is actually pride in ones work establishment.
I am all for it.

Great Post. The offense and Tannehill will make major strides and we will get stuck with a HC that is over his head. I have seen enough of Joe to know he is not HC material.

So Jerry lit it up did he?

PFF:

"Shelley Smith – Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins finished rebuilding the left side of their offensive line by adding Smith. He was one of the most dominant run-blocking guards last season, and this is great news for Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas."

Yes...I see him as an upgrade...dominant in one phase and weak in the other is better than hot a** in both. Notice I said, "slight" upgrade...settle down.

I think Philbin's tenure has unfolded logically to this point. As always, I prefer a big picture overview. Hiring a middle aged guy who has been a career assistant is generally not a good idea. It aligns with limited upside. I posted that during the hiring process. Also, since Philbin was from Green Bay and that team had thrived during the Rodgers era including only 10 passes in the Super Bowl victory over Pittsburgh, it was very likely that Philbin wouldn't grasp the difference between an elite quarterback and mediocre quarterbacking, and therefore we wouldn't run the ball often enough. Again, I posted that long before Philbin coached one game.

The next logical step is patching with different coordinators and high profile assistants. Those additions are invariably overhyped and the bottom line does not change significantly. Again, this is standard procedure. Larry Coker took the same steps when he felt pressure from the administration and fan base. Philbin's misfortune was not inheriting a roster like Coker did. A pro version would be the Jim Caldwell situation with the Colts. That still allows benefit of a doubt to Caldwell, as we've seen recently. Since a program like the Canes had a phenomenal recruiting base and shouldn't have been able to squander the benefit of the 2000-2004 teams and all those first round draft picks so rapidly, Coker's reputation suffered beyond repair, or the ability to land another high profile job.

clabo is washed up that's why he's still jobless right now...everyone else much prefers other options than soon to fall off the cliff (if he hasn't already of which i don't care how he finished up the season the signs are absolutely there)

i'd much rather take a chance on a young player with upside than a corpse...at least a jawaun james has potential for improvement...that doesn't mean james won't play a turnstyle right tackle either...i guess we will have to wait and see...i believe in the pass pro ability i don't believe in the move athlete and ideal move scheme fit but then again i havent seen what they are gonna ask the tackles to do yet either under lazors offense...

as for philbin if we can protect the qb and take some pressure off with a situational effective play running game i have no doubts this will not be the hcs last season in miami...if we can't well then it will

He helps our chances to stay in the middle of the pack.
