Dude, I've had two ACL's done, I was walking in 2 weeks both times...and I was just a college athlete.

For the record I've never seen staples on a knee before either...because you move your leg imediatly after surgery, and any staples would rip the skin...
It must be something they only do in western NY state then where I grew up.

Thanks for the info though Dr Losman7.

He had an ACL correct?

You should be walking without crutches 2 weeks after surgery...especially if you're an athlete.

Which is exactly how long it took your boy Willis McGahee to get back to full health.

I'm pretty sure he was riding a bike 3 days post-op.

Not really..

You wake up from surgery with your leg in a machine that moves your leg at the knee.

movement is key to forming good scar tissue, instead of clumps.

McGahee was released from the hospital Tuesday, two days after undergoing surgery. He has already begun a rehabilitation program by doing leg lifts, even with his left knee heavily wrapped.

Crutches should be used for as long as you need them for comfort and balance. Don’t give the crutches up until you can walk without a limp (usually at least 2 weeks).

You are correct, they have you on a machine the day after that moves your leg in and out. And want you up and moving ASAP! They have you build up your leg before surgery also so that the surronding muscles are strong after surgery.

But you are just walking, nothing crazy for a while.

Again you are correct, no staples in your knee area!

I worked as a OR tech for 15 years Asst on this surgery, it's amazing the difference from the 80's to now!

My friend just had a cadvar's ligament put into his knee, same thing, on the machine less then 24 hours after surgery!
