Will Saban keep Ricky the rest of his carreer?

Here's Ricky's current contract:

2005 $540,000.00
2006 $545,000.00
2007 $670,000.00

So it's not impossible for us to keep both him and Ronnie. It all depends on if Ricky will play for that price. If Wayne gets rid of the $8.6 and Ricky really wants to play football then I'm sure it won't be a problem.

The facts' are starting to come out! RW could have made a ton of money for a tell all book. A reality show and do not forget the big money he turned down to have his dreads' shaved by Gillette! He is not back soley for the money. He left plain and simple b/c football was not fun! When games are supposed to be the fun part, and you know that come monday wou will not be able to walk, lift your arms or even go to the bath room w/o pain, the fun is out the window. There is no fun in running a dive on every single 1st down,2nd,even on 3 and 15. Wanny conceded that we could not pick it up. Why not run Minor on those and spare the beast.

The offense was not fun to watch, let alone play. The players even admitted it was boring, lame, and lacked any creativity. They state on a consistant basis that they now know there is a plan, a concept to the offense. The D verbal stated how the O was way to conservative. Do you think CC would have really stuck around if Wanny were still a coach. Wanny almost made Booker retire last year. He made him cry, things were so anemic in Miami. Miami became the Cardinals/Bungles of the NFL.

Wanny here/Ricky is gone! Wanny is gone Ricky is here. Not to hard to figure out if you really drop your bias. I for one do not hold any ill will, regardless of how much it hurt to not have him last year. Now he will not be asked to shoulder 350 carries a year and he is excited about a more creative offense that will let him get to the outside if he wants to.

I hope he stays, but who really knows!

Well let's see! We do not have a Harrison type of contract, no Manning,no Edge, no Wayne. We have no McNabb/TO.

A creative mind will get a deal done to make it work. Look at how Denver brings in all those big names in every year, even when over the cap. Creative minds do wonderous things. Taylor,ZT,Madison, and Jr will all need to renegotiate if they want to stay a Fin. There is no way they are worth all they are getting. Jr, if he wants to continue to play, will have to, he does not want to go anywhere else. ZT's market is slipping fast, and Madison is facing the same. JT has the most leverage, but aging and being under sized will hurt his value in a ear or two. So they work out their deals to make them more cap friendly, and have a bunch of mid level contracts and not a few super high ones(alla NE)!

NE has shown that if you do the right things, the big names are expendable. Lose one big name and bring in to good players to upgrade 2 positions. That is why Saban has a shot at keeping him around. Saban likes Ricky and Ricky really likes Saban as a person(which is why Ricky is here) and as a coach. It may be in the cards.

While we currently are not paying out big bucks to the clown named Ricky. And we do not pay a whole lot really for our Qb's. Ronnie does make pretty good money. And we could always end up with that franchise type Qb some time maybe even next year. That may not allow us to keep Ronnie and Ricky. besides which Ricky will not play for peanuts too many years. So trading him makes the most sense since he will still owe over 7 mil next year.

It would be a nice story, but I don't see any way we could keep him unless he'd we willing to play for nothing, which I doubt.

Great Avatar! Errr... I don't wan..

Why all the hate man? everyone here is entitled to their opinion, and most of us are of the opinion that it would make sense to trade ricky, not because we hate him, but because with ronnie aboard, it would be the best thing for the team in the long run.

Watch the name calling, that'll get you silenced around here.;)

I agree.
Ricky may get traded, but it wont be for cap reasons. Wayne isn't dumb enough to sign off on the entire 8.6mill for just one season of service.

And I realize that but look at Pittsburgh they have Jerome Bettis and Duce Staley at RB and they don't have a horrible team. Those two also aren't the cheapest backs in the league, Bettis was at $1 million last year, Staley was at $4,662,800 last year. What makes you think we couldn't make this work.

did Staley get 20 mil guaranteed? or how bout a 5 year deal worth more than 30 mil?

If Ricky wants to stay, he'll be cap friendly, and Nick will gladly keep him at that cost.

exactly... duce staley and jerome bettis is not quite ronnie brown and ricky williams.

Staley is the talented version of L. Gordan. (always injured...)

you think he wont be looking to renegotiate after the season?

No. There's no salary cap in college. You keep one great RB, not two. You put that money elsewhere. This team has needs.

Are you for real?
You would trade ricky for what a 4th rounder at best we will not get another team to trade for anything better. Besides there will be several other backs on the FA market next year. What type of quality will we get in the 4th round(you hope 4th round). Trade him and then we are in the same position as last year. 1 play away from being without a running game. We are in the better position to try and keep him and work things out. If he is looking to make top dollar then we just can'tkeep him. But I do not believe that another team is willing to pay him top bill. Even if he rushes for 1400  this year. Mainly because his age/ his history / and I don't think another team is going to be willing to put in the time to make the guy feel comfortable and welcome. You don't think there was A LOT OF EFFORT put on by St. Nick to get Ricky into camp? Ricky feels wanted in Miami and I think he really wants to stay there.
When you get the chance to keep 2 capable backs you keep them.

IE. Carolina (Foster / Davis)
Jets (Martin / Jordan)
Pitt (Bettis / Duce)
Bmore (Lewis / Taylor)
St Luis (Marshall / Jackson)
KC (Holmes / Johnson)

I honestly think they Saban is going to keep him just because this. The Dolphins are going to pay him close to vet min and forgive the 8.6 million he owes. Saban will have a one two HB punch for the next three years for almost the price of one star HB. Call me nuts but I think that is how it's gonna go down.
