will wright contribute this year?

He needs a year of conditioning and strength training. I don't think the FO expects much out of Wright this year. Who would he is only 21 and needs a lot of polishing. This was a good move and a well calculated risk. A 5th round pick is not usually touted as the future DT but Wright has the potential to be this person but he could also fall flat on his face which many 5th round picks do. Look for Traylor, Carter, Zgonina, Holliday and Romerio involved in a heavy rotation along the Dline.

He will see very limited playtime this year barring injury...He could end up with a lot of PT considering out age/depth at DT but that would NOT be a good situation.
if Chester retires then he could be the #4 DT and they always rotate in especially with Traylor who will get tired easily due to his size and age

I would love to see JT, Roth and Wright as the front 3 in the 3-4....Brady, Pennington and Losman better be shaking in their shoes.

i remember a few years back when we used the preseason to determine who would be the starting defensive end. OGUN was amazing during the preseason and won the job. Maybe the defensive tackle spot will be similar to this. The more competition brings the better out of players.

Very true. Chester seems to be the mysterious piece to the puzzle. Who knows. Chester could start the season on the PUP list if the FO feels he is still healthy enough to play.

But if you are getting beaten and you are, say...4-7 with 5 games to go he'll get some PT...if he's ready.

I felt we should have done that last year with some of our players, particularly Carey. Just shows how dumb of a coaching staff we really had.

thats Loserman

He'll get some playing time, in obvious passing situations he can have some impact with his first step and speed.

He will probably get some time in the rotation and in the goal line defense as well

Think about what you just said. If you are going to end up w/ rookies starting for your team, your vets must REALLY suck. Saban should be fired for hiring Traylor and the other vets who couldn't beat out rookies.

I like that our Defense suddenly got MUCH younger. The following guys are all young and talented - and should blend in nicely with our veteran core of Zach, JT, Carter, Seau and Madison.

DL: Roth
DT: Wright

LB: Crowder

DB: Poole
DB: Daniels

One year ago, I just couldnt imagine how we would ever be able to retool our defense once our Vets retire or move on. Now, suddenly, I see a future after Zach, JT and Co. We will not only be a competitive DEF next year, we will be a competitive DEF for many years to come.

More kudos to Saban.

surferosa its to bad poole was hurt!!! I was really looking forward to seeing him play this year.
