I'd rather have a consistent deep threat. Someone with chamber's attributes who you can get up off the sofa and grab a beer if he is left wide open and the ball is in the air headed his way. You just know its money.

Every year, there are a rookie or 2 and some player(s)that has been around a while and busts out with a great season but chambers is consistanly under 1000. Close but no cigar. And the crap about him not having a QB does not fly cuz there are always a few recievers who have great years with no better QB than us. Hell, Boston and Booker managed great years with avg or below QBs.

Chambers can play like a top level receiver in one game and disappear the next. That is the reason he is not a top level receiver.

Yea but with chambers it has not just been the QB, it was also the coaching, the system, no running game, and a lack of an effective offensive line to give the QB time to find open receivers. With all of these things added up, it's amazing that he has had the receiving yards that he has so far. I say you will see him crack that mark this year with the new inphasis on passing downfield and hopefully an improved oline, because without an effective oline, downfield passing is not possible.

Ya know, when I was watching the preseason game and saw him drop that td pass I was thinking of making a thread like this as a joke, because I figured someone else was thinking about doing it for real. Some people on this board never cease to amaze me.

Btw Nate Burlesson dropped more passes last year than Chris Chambers has in his entire career. He didn't even really start catching balls until halfway through the season. :eek:

I agree. But when you are trying to prove to the world that you deserve to be called a great NFL receiver, you can't drop those passes. Not now. Once he has established his status in the leauge, then he can get away with dropping passes like that, randy moss can drop that same pass and no one will say anything, but chambers has not earned that status as of yet.

Chambers is underrated...he's had average QB's throwing him the ball and the ex-coach's favorite play was...R.Williams up the middle for 3 yards and a pile of dust.

Chambers is going to be great this season...sheesh don't tell anyone but he's my sleeper at the WR position for my fantasy football draft this Saturday...watch-out.

Players like Torry Holt, Andre Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Chad Johnson, Javon Walker, Reggie Wayne, Nate Burelson, Hines Ward, Roy Williams, Joe Horn,...etc would have caught that football.

I'm tired of the excuses with Chambers. He has to step it up and be that deep threat!! Yes that means beating double teams and making the hard catch. Its what other damn good WRs do.

How soon we forget how a few years ago he led all AFC WR's with 11 TD's on a team that played Wanny-Ball (Running 65 times a game for a 1.2 YPC AVG) with a QB who's not good enough to start for USC?

Why don't we give Chambers a full season under an offense that isn't hamstrung by a coach with antiquated ideas. If Chambers underachieves this year, then I will be ready to believe he doesn't have the makeup to be an elite receiver.

Andre Johnson is well on his way to becoming an elite receiver. All of those mentioned have put up better years than Chambers. I forget what we signed him for, but I dont think it was elite WR money, I think it was good WR money, which is fine.

I agree, but as of right now its a little early to say that.

This isn't about that ONE catch it is about him stepping it up and producing. I'm sick of seeing mistakes made on his part and tired of seeing these other WRs make routine catches look....routine.
Chambers has to step it up if this team is to overachieve as Saban indicated when he first got here.

This thread just makes me sick. Talk about a bunch of fair weathered fans. The guy drops a ball that he should have caught and that gives you the ammo you need to condemn the guy's career? Anyone who has ever played some ball knows this is a team game. Chambers can get open all day long, and he usually does, but if the QB can't consistently hit him, is is his fault? Is it Chambers' problem that Fiedler consistenly overthrew him for three years? I stopped counting how many of those I saw. Good throw + good route = touchdown. Chambers can control merely one half of that equation fellas. Stop judging someone by numbers alone, look at what you see him doing when he gets a chance to catch a ball. This guy has impressed me from day one. I would take him over most if not all of the other guys mentioned here.

The grass isn't always greener guys. Be careful what you wish for. Do you want the pre-Chambers/Boston/Booker era back? Didn't think so. So simmer down.
