David Boston was the 1st name that came to me.

The guy looked like Zeus and was supposed to he our #1. OBJ, Ocho, Carter, these guys were old and never brought in to be a #1.
Boston got a nasty knee injury if I remember right. Probably too much HGH, he was more like a bodybuilder than an athlete.

Beckham cost us very little... so it really wasn't a bad signing. He was just an insurance policy that we ultimately didn't need.

Less than 3m. No big deal.

Also... there were brothers here who when OBJ was first mentioned were advocating that we should spend 8 or 9 million on him.

THAT would have been a disaster... and I'm not naming names here.

Lol. Most hilarious signing ever. Took him 3 games to catch a pass and he was so amazed he tripped over his own feet and fumbled. Fir those who weren't there, I'm not making this up.
Some of the newbies don't now what some of us ole heads been through!

This thread helped me watch Marino in 1994 against vikes. Wow. So good
Shula awful again. Guy was so overrated from 86 on. Drafting was worse than Grier. Shula was awful for long. I watched. It for many years.

You speak hard but accurate facts.

Shula had hits - and his share of royal misses.

I still really admire him though.

One thought - the Bosa brothers’ dad John was a Dolphin first round pick in the late 1980s. He was starting to look really good… then tore up a knee. I will won’t call him a bust. His relative - Eric Kumerow also late 1980s - not good.

Kumerow’s grandfather was a big time mafia member. Google it. Cool story.

Ya bosa was not a miss. He just got acl and those days. It wasn’t good. Then it happened. Again.

Graf
Brophy
Shipp
kumorow

Those were misses

Signing gene atkins
Veste Jackson
Eric Greene
Oh there are more

Don’t get me started on 1995 free agents and drafts

Then the In game decisions if you watched
Awful.

I don’t admire him because I started watching in 1984. What did he do?

Facts. It’s fascinating to watch Shula media interviews in the glory years. He makes Belichick sound fun.

He was serious. Very hard core. Very successful.

I’ve said he before that losing Csonka, Kiick, Warfield hurt. But compare Mia’s early 70s drafts to Pitt’s… that hurt more.

Great post. Thanks for sharing those names.

He was great in 70s. He got lost or lazy after Marino . Pathetic

Mistakes, we’ve made a few…

Considering the hype level around the signing, OBJ is not even top 3 biggest WR flops. There was pretty low expectations for him… 50% hated the signing from day 1 and there was another 50% who thought “a solid #3” - that’s basically saying you expect him to be the 70-75th best WR.

Will Fuller was markedly worse of late… I don’t remember Cris Carters super well, but I do remember what a flop he was for us.
