Would we have been better resigning our own?

So you are championing signing Finnegan over Carroll???

Where did you get that from his post?

Re-signing or letting Carroll go isn't a move that has much bearing on it. The teams that have young and unproven players step up are the ones who are most successful. Yeah, it helps to have those big free agent signings or bring in productive players, but it'd be a hell of a lot better for this team if players like Jamar Taylor and Dallas Thomas stepped up this upcoming season.

A Knowshon Moreno or a Cortland Finnegan is a very small piece to the puzzle. Not to mention both of those players are bargains.

Miami also got one of the better up-and-coming defenders on the market in Earl Mitchell and kept one of its best defensive linemen, Randy Starks.

It's not always a winning formula to re-sign our own. Look at us signing Starks six years ago when he was just becoming the player he is. That was a great, value signing. Signing Mitchell is the same type of move. As is Shelley Smith.

It's not like Miami is losing incredibly talented players and getting nothing in return. Miami's let a two-down player in Soliai walk. A nickel-at-best corner in Carroll walk. A play-it-safe safety in Clemons walk.

I don't see what the problem is.

We were 8-8 with obvious deficiencies. We could have resigned our own and then upgraded where required. We got rid of Sherman & Taylor as the playcalling and O'line was awful. Then we needed to add players to compete/improve our line and running game.

Donald Penn, Shelley Smith together with Brenner & Dallas Thomas another year on, would have provided competition and depth to the already in place Mckinnie, Clabo, Pouncey, Garner & Jerry.

Then you add Moreno with a legitimate FB in John Kuhn and we are already better going into draft, with even more cap space!

I'm trying to remember Carol doing something worth keeping! Is he cheaper, yes but that doesn't make him better. Finnegan plays with an edge and played at a probowl level. I would love for our defense to fly around and smack someone in the mouth every once in a while. It's a solid signing and it's not my money! I have zero problems letting average talent go and try for better. I do not expect it to work out 100% of the time so I don't slam every move the team makes ...like some others.

Gotta go with Hayden. Our own have been putting out mediocre records so it is good to bring in fresh faces. Other than the LB's I like most of the signings we have made. Besides if we do the re-signing just our own that means Sean Smith over Brent Grimes last year.....yuck. Besides I may be one of the minority here but I like the off-season we have had thus far.

Philbin doesn't know how to coach.. He wants to rely on talent and scheme and wants to micro manage it.. A real coach rides player to max there efforts and tell them to go have fun doin it.. Play the game and go get your Ring.. You can keep flipping players but the missing ingredient is they want to play for a players coach.. Philbin is not.. Good coaching makes mediocre great. as long as there's a skill set..

Did you know Joe Philbin has a better record (15-17) than Bill Belichick did (13-19) after 2 seasons? I bet you would've said the same **** about BB if this board existed in 1992.

Belichick and philbin in the same sentence? Ok.. I'm just not a fan with Philbins coaching style, after the way the season ended I felt the player quit on him. That's just my opinion. I hope Lazor and Philbin come together and create a nice balance with a creative offensive plan and are able to get the best from their players. It would be a nice change of pace to see a team fired up consistently like Pete Carroll does up in Seattle.. Not sure if Philbin has it.. I hope I'm wrong.. I'm excited to see what Hickey does in the draft..

Clemons is still available and I hope we bring him back. If not I think safety is a priority in the first 3 rounds. I'd love Calvin Pryor but unless we sign another guard I think oline is too big of a priority to pass in the first.

@AdamSchefter: Houston Texans reached agreement on two-year deal with former Dolphins S Chris Clemons, per source. #Markman50

Man I hated the linebacker signings last offseason. I remember having the biggest "what the hell" reaction after both.

Who is that smokin chick in your sig? Looks familiar but I can't place. We should re-sign her.

Sorry to be blunt here, but your opinion of not liking Philbin's coaching style has nothing to do with whether he'll be successful or not.

I hate Belichick's coaching style and how he walks around like a douche bag and doesn't show sportsmanship after games and countless other things, but that doesn't matter.

Fact is, we have no idea what Philbin is actually like besides what we've seen depicted in the media and in random interviews/videos. You, like I, have no idea what kind of work or preparation he actually does behind the scenes and we have no idea what his relationship is like with the players. And you know what? We never will. So try not to base an opinion off what little information you have and understand that all of the information in that defense will never be available, and unless he's our uncle or something, we'll never actually know what person he is in day to day life and how it impacts the men in that locker room.

Yep. Same sentence. It's a funny comparison bc Belichick has been so successful with Brady. But I'm not talking about now. After 2 seasons in the league BB was worse than Philbin. You would've said the same thing about BB that you said about Philbin not being able to coach.

I agree with the OP about 2013, cutting Dansby and Fasano was a mistake for Mike Wallace. We passed over good receivers including TY Hilton, who was a local product in order to land a proven player.
It was Ireland just being Ireland, filling a need by creating 2 holes.

With regards to Hickey and 2014, I am OK with the moves. None of those players that were replaced were great and we replaced them with players of equal ability that have more fire and enthusiasm.
I say we see how it comes together before we judge. I think we improved, especially with Albert at LT and now Moreno over Thomas.

I can't argue that and you're right.. I can say that I like the styles of Coach Kelly, Reid, harbaugh, Carroll and Arians opposed to Philbin. but that's my opinion. I hope Philbin is successful cause he coaches my favorite team. I just thought by not having his finger on "bully-Gate" and watching the team fall on their face towards the end of the season had a lot to do with being the Head coach. Maybe I'm wrong.. And by the way I hate Belicheat and I think he's a worm and if it wasn't for Tom Brady he would Average at best.. That's my guess..

Having trouble following. You say lets wait to judge followed by a sentence where you turn around and judge. Is what your meaning to say, don't negatively judge but it is ok to judge in favor of? How is saying you think we improved with Albert and Moreno any different than someone saying they think we DIDN'T improve with albert and Moreno ??
