Just heard Brian Baldinger speaking on the Finsiders and regarding Matt Flynn he said he believes Flynn has the potential to be, and reminds him of a Matt Hasselbeck when he came over to Seattle with Holmgren, and similarly when Schaub was traded to the Texans

both "nice" "solid" "good" QBs but not elite top flight QBs

I have never been a big fan of Schaub he has always been inconsistent and never has "big" games where you are just really wow'ed by him, who knows what could have been this season for him if he did not get injured, but just remember he had the best rushing attack in the NFL, an elite WR in Andre Johnson his whole time as the QB of the Texans, and this year had a top 5 defense to help

I have heard and read this similar opinion regarding Flynn as the potential to be a good QB, but the ceiling is limited

So would you feel comfortable investing big $ in a guy with the "potential" to be a Hasselbeck/Schaub esc QB?

I would be happy with that, but I think his potential is a little higher than Hasselbeck. I'd be very happy with Schaub like performance.

i would definitely take matt schaub numbers from flynn...his stats over the past 4 years have been just as good as eli's

This is the word that tells us to stay away!! How many players have we had here who have had "Potential"?!?!?

I don't think Flynn is or will be an "elite" QB. Maybe solid but not a franchise QB. Sorry to repeat it again but I don't want a QB with Jay Fiedler's arm. And yes we don't need a QB who has a cannon for an arm either but give me a guy who can rifle the ball downfield when need be. Flynn simply can't do it. We need a QB who is a threat to throw it deep. Flynn is not that guy.

I think while hasselback was not elite, he was a very good qb when he was young in my opinion. The seahawks were contenders with him for a decent number of years and he took them to a superbowl. I think miami could go and win with a qb like a young hasselback with the talent miami has with WRs and a tough defense and just a few pieces added. I don't get where, Matt Flynn has a weak or non strong arm. I've watched the lions-packers game highlight and he threw a couple deep TD passes and they did not flutter but zipped into the WRs hands. The last deep TD was not a rocket, but thats not how the pass shouldve been anyway. He threw it right, a nice arc to his throw but it didnt flutter or stay in the air to long, he launced it deep with an arc and had the ball fall in short time to the WRs hands. In my opinion he showed good touch for deep passes and accuracy. But we shall how things go when or if he starts. But just going by what I've seen and dont think he has a weak arm and I do think his arm is strong than matt moores. For the same deep passes, moores throws wouldve fluttered and stuck in the air and dropped slowly like hes done this last season or dip low for which the WR would have to go low and scoop the ball.

"Potential, thats the worst word in football, potential. I don't believe in potential I beileve in production ane execution, potential is for the birds."

Super bowl winning coach Jon Gruden

Always liked that quote!
