Wright, Roth, Vickerson

It's gonna be kinda of strange this year for some fans when it comes down to the final cuts because it's not the standard 6 LB, 5 DE, 4 DT final roster. You have to consider Bowens, Taylor are OLBs at times, Vickerson(although he hasn't been used so much at DE)/Carter/Holliday are tweeners, and offcourse Crowder plays multiple positions like no other. It'll be somewhat hard to say who's gone and who's staying.

Yeah, that's the unforunate part.

But hey, everyone on defense (1st/2nd/3rd strings) have took a step forward, which is very good. It would be a very hard cut.

did wright look good. that's awesome! there's one thing i really like about roth. he seems to have a touch of luck about him similar to bruschi. he just seems to make plays at critical times

Cuts are going to suck. IMO, Manuel Wright still needs to step up.

Wright showed a better motor and the two offensive lineman blocking him were pushed back a feet or two.

Vickerson continues to look very good. In fact, he made the play on Roth's INT, forcing the quick throw and tip that Roth basically inherited.

Roth looks more like a 4th or 5th rounder than a 2nd. That is where I'd slate him if I had just returned from Europe or wherever and hadn't followed Roth in college or been aware of draft specifics. He just reminds me of rookies who play the second half of preseason games and look semi-overmatched. The effort is there but the combo of frame and athletic ability just isn't special, not on this level and considering the type of athlete he will be asked to defeat if he ever becomes a starter. Roth looks like a Zgonina journeyman type to me, not as much pass rush instincts and variety of moves as Zgonina has now but that type of frame and ability.

Wright played better tonight than any game previously. Still not on Vickerson's level. This is based on very few plays at the position, but I like Wright much better at 3-man down LE than DT. He seems to get excellent leverage and push on the outside, more confident in his ability to get upfield and beat his man if he's in space.

I liked Vickerson

I also wanna mention Crowder. He stuffed the Bucs HB Grahm pretty good when they ran him up the middle.

I didn't think Roth looked that good...the big play (interception) came right too him..other than that i saw him getting blocked mostly...

what is everyone else's take?

thx for the write up. i was worried when i read some people thought he should be cut. from what i been reading into the situation the guy just needs to get some stamina but he's so quick off the snap that it seemed insane to me to cut him. he's the type of guy you stick on the roster and dont expect much for one year. just have him do wind sprints and weight training the whole year and then next year you see what he can do

I still think Shaw deserves a spot on this team, just because we didnt draft him this year, he is a good player who has been playing well.

Who's spot do we give him?
