Wright, Roth, Vickerson

I can understand Wright needing to step it up more but I still cant see any way we just release him..

im still the one who said Vickerson was a clone of Kevin Carter

I have been on the Vickerson bandwagon since we drafted him. If anyone doubts me, look up my posts. I have called him the sleeper pick of the entire draft in a few posts. That is why it was so hard to hear him showing up late an dhaving the "brook trout look" a while back. However, I am pleased with his gameday play and in the end, that is what counts.

Vickerson continues to look very good. In fact, he made the play on Roth's INT, forcing the quick throw and tip that Roth basically inherited.

Roth looks more like a 4th or 5th rounder than a 2nd. That is where I'd slate him if I had just returned from Europe or wherever and hadn't followed Roth in college or been aware of draft specifics. He just reminds me of rookies who play the second half of preseason games and look semi-overmatched. The effort is there but the combo of frame and athletic ability just isn't special, not on this level and considering the type of athlete he will be asked to defeat if he ever becomes a starter. Roth looks like a Zgonina journeyman type to me, not as much pass rush instincts and variety of moves as Zgonina has now but that type of frame and ability.

Wright played better tonight than any game previously. Still not on Vickerson's level. This is based on very few plays at the position, but I like Wright much better at 3-man down LE than DT. He seems to get excellent leverage and push on the outside, more confident in his ability to get upfield and beat his man if he's in space.

i think roth might really have a future standing up.

I agree with you on most things about Roth but...

If he does get the start then he is going to have the advantage in the 3rd and 4th quarters when he is still going as hard and fast as he is in the 1st half. He has a great motor and that is why he got projected as a late 1st early 2nd round pick.

no way we release wright you guys have to think once in a while we gave up a draft pick next year for wright why would we release him this year. And he is improving :goof:

I think people are forgetting that he did not expect to come out this year and it was his time off in the college season and wasn't ready fitness wise to come into the NFL. Most rookies work the hardest in their life to get into shape for TC and the combine. He might be a bit sluggish this season but when he gets a full preseason under his belt in the NFL next year I expect him to be one of our most improved players with his physical attributes and measurables.

i have been very impressed with vickerson, as for roth, i dont care if he doesnt have the longest arms in the game, or if he needs to add another pass rush move to his repitoire, i like roth for the passion he brings to the team, the enthusiasm, like crowder, we needed to infuse some of that into our defense. manny is going to need time, but he is going to be effective shooting gaps in this defense, with his burst and first step explosion. i dont know about you guys, but in obvious passing downs when we had linebackers and safeties all over the line of scrimmage, i was salivating. had stupid jaws guessing " oh there coming, wait there not, oh i didnt think seau would blitz"

Yo vickerson and Manny did good with ****ty back up O-lineman so even though they look impressive dont look into it to much just really them getting expierence.

They are facing the same caliber as them as per their draft choice. Manny in the 5th and Vickerson in the 7th. They were facing O-lineman who were also drafted around there and beat them convincingly last night.
