I blame our failure of the season more so on the coaching staff and poor execution then i do on Ireland. I think Ireland put together a roster that should have went to the playoffs. Its not his fault we choked..
On the LB issue. I feel like the coaching staff wanted us to get younger/quicker LB's since our Lbs got burned in coverage last season so badly and never generated any type of pressure. We dont know if SIgning Ellerbe and Wheeler were soley on Ireland or not. And lets not forget that Dansby came into camp last season out of shape and had his ups and downs.
Now for the O line... I dont think the O line is entirely talentless. He tried to resign Long but he wanted way too much money for an injury prone LT. He went with Martin who seems to be a bust now, but at the time a lot of people here wanted to see what he could do. Signed Clabo which everyone here loved... And had Incognito coming back who was a Pro Bowler and Pouncy who is a pro bowler.
I blame our O line problems on a few different reasons. 1. Zone Blocking Scheme. We simply do not have the right personnel for this scheme. Bad choice by our staff to go with this scheme. 2. our Go/Go, Go Cadence. Something that was rarely ever switched up and was one of the dumbest things i have ever seen. How can you expect the line to pass block when the D hears
"Go" and then the Line can go hard at the QB and whoever is blitzing can go hard at the QB knowing that its a pass before the QB even has the ball in his hands. Same with the running game. How can you expect the team to run block when the D hears "go go" and the D knows its a run and they all run towards the LOS. How can you expect our HB or line to do anything with that? If you notice on "Go go" plays, just watch how the D reacts. 3. I forget what it was, but it has been mentioned about Pouncy and his head movement giving away the snap count or w.e all season.
Ireland went out and got Wallace who was a flop by the numbers and a dissapointment. But he is what he is.. ANd what he was , was a player who should have had easily 300 more yards and 4 Tds more if Tannehill could connect with him on the Deep ball. I am a Tannehill supporter, but im not going to ignore the fact that he missed Wallace quite a few times. Hopefully they can get their timing down better and be a better duo next season. Also the play calling was pretty ****ty all season long as well. SHerman is a poor offensive coach and our QB coach shouldnt be a QB coach in the NFL and coaching a young , up and coming starter like Tannehill. Sherman is Philbins guy, not Irelands guy.
Its so easily to point at the GM, and say look at how bad this player is or he didnt draft or sign this player he sucks.. Its so easy to blame the GM.. BUt the fact is.. he put together a pretty solid roster which is young and played pretty well most season. Team should have easily had more wins then it did. ANd once again, thats not on the GM... Its on the staff and the players. Ireland didnt give up a 4th and 10 against the panthers on their 20 and let them march down the field for a TD. Ireland didnt call out of a pass play against the bills and then fumble the ball at the 50 when all we needed to do was run the ball and run the clock.
If we can Ireland, we better have somebody who is good coming into replace him.
