He was on the Colin Cowherd show on ESPN RADIO today...He had this to say about the dolphins...

"Another Horrible team (referring to what he said about the Browns, but I will tell you this...the dolphins have by far the best, the very best practices I've ever seen in terms of structure, discipline, and organization. Saban runs a tight ship there's no doubt. This secures my image of what he will do in the NFL...there's no doubting that Saban will have a fantastic impact on the Dolphins and the NFL. Not another spurrier scenario for sure. As for talent and depth, they are lacking a lot, but Saban will definitely make a strong impact on the little things...like discipline and management."

He also commented on the best Rookie he's seen so far and he said Cadillac Williams was hands down going to be the biggest impact on their team.

So there are both sides of the issue. I love hearing any tid bit I can though. I understand he's only been there a day at each camp so it's not a great feel, but it's something. He was also at Carolina, who he said was the best team he's seen all year. Lots of depth, not great depth(as in skilled players) but lots of good experience depth. He saw the Falcons and said Vick looked absolutely Horrible. Horrible. That's just one man's opinion, but said mechanically he pretty much sucked. Quote unquote. What do you guys think about all this?? He's a great writer usually, so I don't know what to think.

He has an opinion just like every other scribe out there take it with a grain of salt. No one knows what this team is capable of until they actually start playing games.

As Mr. Pastabelly points out, yes, we've got talent and depth problems.

I would phrase it as talent and depth questions. We don't know whether they are problems yet.

I read that Saban was surprised about the depth at LB.

that's wierd, this applies to Don Banks report to you know? ;)

"Talent problems: Quarterback, Cornerback, Tackle, Guard, Center, Cornerback, Safety, Defensive Tackle.Depth problems: Cornerback, Guard, Center, Safety, Linebacker, Tight End."

Quarterback - Frerrote is average
Cornerback - downgraded... Is Travis Daniels worse than Calvin Jackson, though?
Tackle - best tackles we've had in 10 years, since webb went to a probowl.
Guard - best guards we've had since Keith Sims
Center - Mckinney looks as bad as Tim cRuddy, maybe Hadnot's the answer.
Safety - Schulters/Tebucky Jones/Bell seems strong
Linebacker - very deep with Pope / Crowder / Moore as backups
Tight End - Mcmichaels pretty good / Lee can't catch
Defensive Tackle - better than last year, could be a problem though

Most of the talent problems created last year have been rectified this year. I wouldn't say this team is any less talented than the one we had 2 years ago.

they say that im sure because we dont have any big name superstars plus we were 4-12 last year so to everyone we suck

In my opinion, we never lacked the talent or depth to win, Wanny's scheme (from JJ) sucked...I know the game is played on the field but Larry Brown (i.e. Belechik (sp?)) is going to beat Flip Saunders (i.e. Wanny, Dungy, etc.) all day...

With Wanny, the better teams were always going to kick are a$$e$ in the playoffs or close games, it was inevitable....we get the lead (or turn the ball over early), then run-run-pass-kick. The other team goes 3 or 4 wide on us and scores crazy in the second half, our defense gets tired, and we lose... a la the Patriots game two years ago, many of the Jet games, the Minnesota game, etc...can we pass in the 3rd quarter please??

Saban will...not saying we go to the playoffs, but that old "get the lead and then run for the duration", and hope our defense holds them is dead. Finally.

i like what i read on saban.

As far the no depth comment, we're gonna surprise a lot of people. But until we do it we're not getting respect from the idiotic media. Thats just something we'll have to live with until we accomplish something on the field. I can live with that though cause i know there's a lot of talent here. Its mainly at the qb spot that we lack talent and a few other spots that maybe can use upgrading.

I dont think we have talent problems at CB and safety, we dont have depth there.... Our starters will be good... Madison, Daniels, Jones, and Schulters.... however if one of those guys go down or we need to move to our nickel package, thats when the talent level seems to drop considerably, and I attribute that to depth. Other positions RIGHT NOW I agree.... I think we might be good along the Oline except for Center. We also lack depth at the Tackle position.

I have never liked Pastabelly. I think John Clayton is much better. Still not saying much though.

Talent we obviously have problems at
QB, CB, G, C, T (just because Oline is a question mark still), Also how can people say we have talent problems on DT and Saftey. Schulters and Jones are alot better than what most teams have. On DL having Chester and Carter are very good. Wright, Vickerson, Holliday are question marks but that falls under depth.

Depth:
I cant understand how anyone says we dont have depth at linebacker. For that matter even DL. Saftey has depth. Tillman, and Bell are good backups.

We do have depth problems at CB (depending on Poole), and DT. As far as I am concerned that is it for depth problems.

I totally agree. Starters at CB and S(now that Lance is on the team) should be fine.

I like Daniels a lot. But he goes down and there's real trouble. I've been touting Howard since before the Surtain trade (he's actually why I said we should trade him) but so far he's totally let me down and of course Poole got hurt. Just don't anyone forget that if Daniels does end up starting, he's very likely to have some bad games....he's a rookie 4th round pick. This sounds terrible to say but next season with a healthy poole and daniels, we should be set until it's time for madison to say goodbye.

And now with Schulters I can finally relax about safety and the depth at Safety also. His signing has a ripple effect. Tillman now becomes a backup (which hopefully means he can stay healthy) and Bell won't be rushed into starting. Bell's got a bright future if he can stay healthy. In Saban's latest interview...get this..Saban actually said Bell was a guy for this team. WOW!

Everybody was on the board and Saban picked Ronnie over Caddy, Benson etc. That's good enough for me. I liked his story about how his whole defense was beat up trying to tackle Ronnie. He is a bruiser with great recieving skills who just happens to run a 4.3. He will fit into the new offense perfectly. I can't wait to watch him tear it up in the NFL.

Y. Bell has been looking good in TC. He's been playing strong from day one. I think he's going to make an impact this year....

PHINZ RULE!!!
