Zach Overrated: People starting to take notice.

Zach is on his way out, he's good but not great. In Zach's tenure here the Dolphins never drafted any one at the position with any legit talent; the players barely could stay on Special Teams. I commend Saban for actually bringing in some competition. When Morlon was drafted out of 'Cuse, he played MLB, before he even hit the Miami Beaches he was permanently moved to OLB. This lends to the idea that Miami’s leadership was always cool with the statue quo, 10 wins, 1 playoff win and a playoff lose, push mediocre players into superstar/playmaker roles that anyone could fill. Jimmy and Dave dogged W.H. (a good man) and left this team high and dry.

Morlon Greenwood was never half the player Zach was. You want to talk about "overrated"? Just look at Greenwood.

I think he is the right player for the system he was in. He benefits from large tackles allowing him to run everywhere to make tackles (which plays to some of his biggest strengths - instinct and vision). I don't know how suited he is to a 3-4 because of his size, but Saban is smart and may find a way to take advantage of his strengths.
I agree, he should be on the downside of his career because of age, but last time I saw him play he was still doing fine with Chester and Bowens, the big tackles out. Is he a Butkus, or another all time great? No. But he is a deserving pro bowler.

Yeah. Glad Saban didn't give him Texas-sized money.

Dude, he plays with heart and is good, you don't make all pro by being a fake, get real.

Take the emotions out of it and look at the bottom line, couple years they stuck somebody in the lineup because Zach was hurt and they had 17 tackles, might have been Tommy H. All Zach does is make tackles 5 million for, you need to get real. Bledsoe, Bledsoe of all QB's would throw Zach off to avoid sacks, man Zach hasn't been a force since that Troy B. hit his rookie year. Anybody can out play Zach, and thats my point. JJ knew and so did Dave, but to keep people in the seats they cultivated a superstar so we can hang onto. He's good not great. Jeremiah Trotter could have been drafted, Ray Lewis could have been drafted and many more. Dolphin fan just like you, but I always keep it real. Tell Zach to watch for the hook, a real talent evaluator is here, Randy and Saban don't baby to anybody, players who can play will be on the team. Trust that. If you believe in Saban now, don't be mad when Zach is gone later.

He was out of position, that makes a difference in how you play. Understand that and you'll understand my point. We could've gotten better over the years.

If all this is accurate (which it is not) then why do the PLAYERS (not fans not media) vote him to the pro bowl? I think they know a little more than you do..........

Who cares how any player is "rated"?

What possible difference does it make?

In the age of the salary cap it is far more important to make certain that your players are not overpaid.

If Zach is earning his salary, then he is a good player for the Miami Dolphins.

Zack is all pro for flips sake!!!! you dont get to Hawaii if u arnt one of the best. Im getting pretty ragged off with all these negative comments on Zack to tell u the truth.

Thomas is tough he leaves it all on the feild.I love the fact he never gives up.overrated or over achiever. They always try to talk crap on him and every year im screaming alright getthim ZT.:lifter:

Overrated or not, I think there is a noticable decline with our D when he's not playing.

Steve

Let's face it. Our Defense was built around Zack so he is good or even excellent. But he has been a standout on a team woth no stars besides corner. Further, When ever the big games came in January or Defense was handled with no issues. Zach was often burned when forced to cover downfield. The coach overrated him by building the entire plan around him.

as i have said before. you can be very good, and still be overrated.

Z. Thomas is very good. but his reputation, and how people view him, are above his performance level. (even if that is very high).

same with Seau. he was one of the best. now hes slowing down. but people still think of him as that great player. and thats why he is overrated also.

I understand your point of view and definately believe it for Seau but I have to politely disagree on Zach. I just don't see him getting THAT much love in the media to say he is overrated. As a fan who doesn't miss many games I can say that its more the heart and leadership he brings than his performance on the field. As a fan of another team I can see where you would say that but as a Phin fan when I see Zach make a big play I know it pumps the whole team up.

The guy makes not only your defense better but the whole team! Who cares what some sports writer creates. I disagreed with most of his list.

i think its read that our D's best players have been Zack, JT, Madison and Surtain over last 5 seasons or so. And our D has been higly rated throughout that time. Those were our 4 studs on D. So Zack is a great LB. We all know it. See what we wud have done without him. i rest my case.
