Armando says he would trade Marshall for a chance at Luck if possible

Marino made guys look good too. Look at McDuffie. While he was a good WR, Marino made him look like an all-pro at times.

Really?? I forgot Marino got how many rings when he was throwing to who??? Trading away picks and talent do nothing for you unless you have talent already.

He had Clayton, Duper, and Nat Moore as his top options when he first came in and couldn't get over the hump. We did pretty well, but our D's inconsistencies are what hurt us the most. Later on, no running game did him in.

Sure, it's possible Luck could bust. Not likely though. He's not an Alex Smith or Brady Quinn. We're talking a Bradford, Ryan level prospect. Even knowing there's a risk you would still trade a pro bowl WR for the chance because that's just how damn valuable QBs are. Look at the two best teams in our conference. They both got rid of their best receivers and didn't blink. Why? Because they have 2 elite QBs who turn 3rd rounders and scrap heap pickups into highly effective NFL players.

No thanks. I'll take my chances that Locker or Mallett fall to us rather than trade our only legit offensive weapon and probably more draft picks for an unproven commodity. Everyone assumes Luck will be good, but what if he isn't? What if he crumbles after losing Harbaugh as his coach? You never know. Stick with your proven players IMO.

I think he is just making a point that any or all trade chips will likely be utilized this offseason.

Too bad we don't have many. It's insane how awful our offense is.

Actually we do. We have a young team. Problem is, you would be creating holes in other areas.
Long, Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Langford, Starks, Dansby, Wake, Misi, Davis etc all have trade value, BUT they are also part of the rebuilding effort from the current regime.
The talent overall on this team is pretty good. Keep in mind that TS mismanaged the personnel on the O-line during TC and they were also hit hard with injuries during the last 1/3 of the season. Long has been hurt, Carey had struggled with a nagging knee injury most of the year until finally going on IR. Berger has been hurt as well. Jerry IMO never should have been handed the starting job. Grove and Thomas never should have been cut outright.
The sky is not falling. What the team obviously needs is abetter HC and a QB (most glaring need). Everything else can be improved by tweaking the roster with FA.

If Luck busts, then you suck. We currently suck. I'd say there's no greatness without gambling, and the mediocrity will continue until we get a stud QB.

The issue here is kind of interesting. Marshall for Luck no problem, but it aint gonna happen. Then it begins to get tricky. If you told me Luck was the next Brady or Manning then I could go as far as this draft plus a little something else. But see that list with the playoff QBS? Big Ben, Ryan, Sanchez, Flacco, Cassel, Vick, Rogers ect. What do these guys have in common? A team around them. For a small example that can be expanded by yourself. What does Polamalu being out do to the Steelers? Take them out of Super Bowl contention. Heck even guys as great as MArino and Manning probably can't do it alone. So you begin to walk a fine line. Where does the point that you begin to damage the rest of your team stop and start. If Luck is Brady and you can build a system that is comparable around him then you can go to the ends of the world to get him. If not it becomes a dangerous walk.

1) Luck isnt busting. Dude would be a top 10 QB in the league RIGHT NOW if he played. The guy IMHO will be a top 3 QB for many years once Brady and Manning start to decline. Whoever gets Andrew Luck will be a perinial contender and likely win a couple of championships. He is that good.

2) Of all the players we have that can return value for us, Cam Wake could probably get us the most. I dont think he is overly expensive right now, so his contract lends itself for trade(is he even under contract for next season or are we franchising him?). Pass rushing specialists are the next best thing in trade value behind QBs. We could get some great value out of him. When you consider the fact we got him for next to nothing, I think it would be a good move to use him in a deal to get a player like Luck.

If we cant get Luck, I would like to move up enough to get Mallett, but I dont think I would be willing to part with Wake in that deal. Jake Long for sure, but no one is going to trade for that contract. Long is a great LT, but he is highly overpaid.

3) Marshall is still a top 3 receiver in this league, as is Larry Fitzgerald. These guys just suffered the no QB syndrome. It hurts. They are still freakish in talent though along with Andre Johnson, Hakeem Nicks, and Calvin Johnson. Top 5 right there.

But, WR IMHO is a spot that is easily replaceable. True, you cant just nab a freak like Marshall at the position, but a good QB can work with WRs so long as they have NFL skills. Its really all about your QB.

Also, there was an outstanding write up on TMQ on ESPN.com about all the receivers lately who are being found in the middle rounds of the draft. Check it out. You wont be finding any franchise QBs in those rounds, thats for sure.

So I wouldnt mind trading Marshall at all if it got us some nice picks that we could either get good players with or use in trade to get Luck or Mallett.

I think Luck may end up staying another year at Stanford, especially with the looming lockout, but I really don't know.

Agree with the sentiment, but Luck won't be a top-10 QB at any point in his rookie season - let alone now. I agree that he has the potential to be a top-3 QB. But, the last time a QB was top-10 as a rookie was the only time: Dan Marino.

The trade want happen because nobody is stupid enough to take Marshall and a bunch of picks, when they have a franchise QB staring them in the face! Maybe Carolina will take a LT with there first pick, they don't have a Pro Bowl LT. That means they can't take Luck, he might get hurt! LOL
