Can anyone get some info on this guy, from his stats, it looks like he may have only completed one full NFL season. Is this a depth signing?

So we sign a 33 year old G/T as we prepare to rebuild? Unless this is a pure depth move and we are still shopping.

He can play both guard and tackle spots is only a depth player nothing to get excited about at all. As a starter he hasnt been able to hold on to a starting job since 2006. Not a good lineman by any stretch , kind of perplexed that there was not a better guy out there. Hope we didnt pay him crap because he is not worth more than minimun salary

All riiighhht Miami! I knew it wouldn't take long for Ireland to come up with an answer to Buffalo's signing of Mario Williams.

Mad Dog must be looking down and just shaking his head over this mess.

Kinda makes me think they have something up their sleeve for draft day or something, because I imagine Steve Ross has to be absolutely desperate for a season ticket selling splash right now.

People that are blaming Jeff Ireland for signing Hicks need to get over themselves!! This is clearly a Parcells/Sparano move that Jeff had nothing to do with.

What could they possibly have up their sleeve on draft day? Short of trading for Drew Brees or something, there is nothing they could possibly do now that would generate any excitement.

    Trade the pick for Tebow.

At this point, you have to consider every mistake possible.

Every year about this time fair weather fans question every signing...
We have 90 roster spots to fill for training camp...They can't all be pro bowlers.

Do you really want a coach that is oblivious to roster moves? Think about that for a minute and get back to us.

Geez, so much uproar over a camp fodder signing?

You do need 8 or 9 OL on the team, why just hand over spots to the Cook's, Jerry's and Garners. This is all part of the process, calm down.

These are the only kind of guys the Dolphins can get in free agency. No one is going to voluntarily go to the Dolphins, because their reputation is mud from calling people's mothers prostitutes, showing no loyalty to a still capable Ricky Williams, and trading away the best player on the team. The only way the Dolphins will get anyone of value as long as the front office stays the same is through the draft and trades.

Hicks could be a quality flip OT. Don't hate on the signing just yet folks. Without that flip guy this past season we saw Columbo all year. Maybe with an Artis Hicks we could have pulled Columbo.

....and then proceeded to see him getting beat more often than even Columbo?

    <sigh>

We've had THREE losing seasons in a row....we kept the same GM and expected to see something different....we haven't...is anyone really shocked by it? (dont give me that crap about Parcells being here for most of it either)

In general he's just a backup, but he does play multiple positions on the OL so he's flexible

He sucks. There were probably people who defended Colombo when he signed last year. The carcass of Peter Falk would have been a better Colombo.

This is the Bill Parcells system BIG BEEFY GUYS UP FRONT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL.... it doesnt matter if they are mobile or not (Colombo). The only thing that surprised me here was that he didnt come from DALLAS!

oh and the reason he was signed is he spent his entire career in the West Coast Offense. Reports are he's just here for depth at most, but they want him to mentor the young interior linemen

It's funny, I'm definitely more of an optimist rather than a pessimist when it comes to moves this team makes. The "final" move that broke the Sparano train for me was not bringing in Colombo . . . but bringing him in here to "start" at RT. Certainly didn't mind it as a depth move, just like I don't mind this move as a depth move. But the constant bringing in of that Cowboys hot garbage over the years on the oline (Joe Berger, Al Johnson, Pat Mcquistan, Colombo, etc, etc.) had just become too much to deal with and it doesn't take 4 years to get your oline to gel and an oline coach shouldn't be tinkering with the line as much as Sparano did.

I think getting Hicks as a versatile depth G/T certainly doesn't hurt this team and NOBODY, I mean NOBODY is as bad as Mark Colombo. Artis Hicks is a better offensive lineman than Mark Colombo, give him that much.
