DEFENSE!!! Where is It????

The pass defense is awful. I'm surprised New England didn't score 50. Miami needs a pass rusher, but that's not going to be easy in this upcoming draft. Might be better off getting a speedy, athletic linebacker who can cover or a better corner than X. Howard.

Lots of teams run zone schemes, we just suck at it. One of the plays yesterday is a microcosm of the problems. It's 3rd and 14 and we give up big gainer in the middle of the field to Cooks. In most zone schemes, the linebackers have enough depth to force the QB to throw over the top and attempt to squeeze the ball into a tight window before the over coverage can make a play. Not the Dolphins. Our CB and our safety followed the same receiver to the corner route and the linebackers had no depth. Cooks had 20 yards of space on the in cut. Not a difficult throw.

These errors in the coverage show up over and over again. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way our coaches are teaching coverage principles.

We have a winner!!!!

I would argue that the pervasive issue for the entire team is situational awareness. The best time to run a fake punt is when the Patriots ran it. Why did that surprise our players? The number of third and longs converted by opposing offenses on screens and dump offs is a lack of understanding the situation. The big sacks during the game is a lack of trust and situational awareness. Throwing the pick before the half is a lack of situational awareness. In that situation, you overthrow the ball and hope your WR makes the play.

The biggest issue is not talent.

Far from it would imply that there are about 10 worse teams. I’d be amazed if 3 could be found.

Miami's Defense lately has been playing pretty bad, but as far as overall worst defenses all year, Miami is not the worst.

Top 10 worst defenses

Total yards a game (rounded off):

1. Bucs-396
2. Giants-390
3. Pats-386
4. Colts-376
5. 49ers-374
6. Chiefs-373
7. Lions-359
8. Bills-355
9. Raiders-359
10. Packers-354

12. Dolphins-346 (16th against the Pass…9th the Run)

Defense to beyond simple. That only works if you have superior players (both mind and body), which the dolphins do not have by any stretch.

That’s surprising as far as yards but we did have a 6 game stretch where the defense had us fooled into considering them a strength. Now that teams have figured Burke out they’re Back to their putrid 2016 form. The last 4 games they’ve given up over 1600 yards and over 120 points which if the trend continues, and I probably will, we’ll be moving up that list.

We seem to have a lot of players who have very low football intelligence. When you have to dumb everything down so a 3 year-old can understand it then you have a problem.

All 3 levels of our defense have been a huge disappointment these last 6 games, too many running lanes left open by the front 7 leading to 100 yard rushers who shouldn't be getting that. Terrible communication in the secondary leading to easy big plays to wide open receivers. Burke has been awful these last 6 weeks and needs to go.

Defense where is it?

They gave you a TD, INT,SACK and numerous pressure against Brady in NE. What more did you want them to do?

How about guard the seam one time. Each and every week the seams are WIDE open, WIDE open!!!
