Dolphins Close to a Deal for (RB) Chris Carson

I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't seen anything announcing that he has signed.

I like Carson, but Brown gives Miami a similar player. Great to land two physical backs if it works out.
The highlight reel for Malcom Brown was grade A 'sports porn'. Great vision, power, balance And a wicked mean streak to punish guys at the POA. I Likey!!

Gaskins grew on me as the year went on.

I think he really improved with more playing time.

Showed me things I didn't think he was capable of.

Totally changed my opinion of him.
The speed is what surprised me, especially in that game vs the Raiders. What was funny, to me, is that same day finheaven posters were bitching about his 'lack of speed'. Ask the Raiders DBs about that. They got a good look at his name plate in the distance.

I also think his toughness, run-through-tackles, whatever you want to call it, improved as the season wore on.

I still want one of the three RB's in the Draft.
Carson, Brown, Gaskin, and Ahmed would be fine for one more year if we prioritized WR and O-Line in the draft. Adding to to the line and passing game will help the run game quite a bit also. We can focus on adding a big time running back once everything else is built if we wanted.

Regardless what we do, we need to make sure our run game has some juice next season.

He's good folks.........
Not that I would object adding another good player in FA, but why on earth wouldn’t we just draft a running back? Cheaper, less tread on the tires, plenty of nice prospects in this round without the injury history. Just curious...

You have to measure the value of what else you can get with the pick, and then realize that such a tiny % of RBs ever sign a second contract with the same team.

If they do sign a second contract, it is for stupid money. Bell, Elliot, McCaffrey, etc...

So you are looking at taking one in the second round or earlier... every 4-5 years...

Other positions tend to last longer...

Yes, you can pay less salary, but you lose on the resources side of the ledger. This is why so few non-super bowl teams draft a RB early anymore. Unless you are ready... right now, it's a big outlay in draft capital.

It must be something about “us” w this lack of speed thing. When he was here, Damien Williams didn’t look any faster than these guys. Then he goes to KC and I watch him rip a 90 yard TD run up the gut - and he looks fast in that offense. Perhaps it’s the way we consistently don’t open holes for the backs - for like 15 years - that makes these guys look slow? I don’t know what to think anymore.
