A simple accusation can do that?

No proof such as a video (Rice), marks around the neck (Hardy), court ordered anger management (Carroo)...yet we can hold him hostage?

Bingo!!! This isn't guilt or innocence, this is avoiding negative press or the APPEARANCE of dissing women. Doesn't mean it's fair or just, just reality.

Yes, anything regarding women gets blown up even if it's only an accusation. That's part of it. That's the society we live in. Second of all, the story sounds very messy. Not only that, but this story came out way too close to the draft. If teams aren't able to get to the facts needed to clear Conley before the draft starts, then you just spent a high draft pick on a player who might be going to prison. These are the type of decisions that get GMs fired.

They both get drafted . . . But these type of acquisitions cause players with first round grades to slip into round 2 and further.

Nobody is getting held hostage but these teams have sponsers and fans that contribute more money than anything any player is going to contribute. Last thing a sponser wants to hear is that the team you have given millions and millions of dollars to just selected a potential rapist with their first round pick. They don't want their named tied to any of it.

So yea homework has to be done because the ramifications are severe if it goes south.
