Hayden Fox's Assessment: Week Eight

Coyle called a good game yesterday, but the lack of utilizing the talent on the team is crazy. Lamar Miller's running style, smoke screens and throwing deep to Wallace, Thigpen in the backfield, using Jordan and RT's play action ability are areas the team could use more and just do not.

Pats put Talib on Graham, taking him completely taking him out of the game. I believe that Jordan can do the same, and maybe better over the long haul. His size, speed, and long arms are a natural to cover TE's, who have killed us.

Not going to agree there any throw that results in a wr diving backward twisting in mid air against his momentum is not a drop on the wr. You can blame the Wallace on the in route but that play was spectacular if caught but not a drop on Wallace.

There ya go. You said it right there! Wallace cant make spectacular plays. Youd think a 12m/year receiver could. I mean Dez Bryant, Calvin Johson, brandon Marshall - make those plays.

gonna be honest with you, im pretty sure i can catch that ball and im washed up and unathletic. fairly certain half this board could come down with that ball. obviously not speaking to an nfl level after all, we are no juan huron's... but generally speaking. i have faith any of our other receivers would have come down with that ball.

It was catchable, but not the easy catch it should have been. It was a tough adjustment. Tannehill puts the ball in the vicinity, but he lacks the pinpoint accuracy of top passers.

I agree on Thigpen and the fair catches, he was calling them when there wasn't a defender within ten yards. To me, some of this is on coaching. They clearly didn't trust him last year to field anything close to the goal line and it looks like he has started to not trust himself. As a return specialist, he is sadly a waste of a roster spot right now because his KO's have no chance and he scarcely returns punts.

Good write up Hayden. Bet you were busting at halftime and the crowd was quiet. In the end we reverted to the same old same old. Stopped running the ball even though that was working well. Missed FG's with one being blocked. Sturgis is getting a pass but he's been struggling since the out of bounds kick off vs Baltimore.
Sacks a plenty and poor ball security. This is getting old fast.

* The Patriots should not complain about ref calls for the next decade. All I heard was about how they got screwed vs. the Jets on the missed FG attempt. I am not convinced that O.V. batted the ball intentionally. Only the Patriots can get rocked for a sack and pick up 10 yards and 1st down. Also, Jimmy Wilson did not interfere with Gronk. He was going for the ball and barely made contact anyways. Rishard Matthews was in. Not sure why it was not challenged, but the call should have been made on the field. Also, a Dimitri Patterson holding call was made as Tom Brady was out of the pocket and was not even looking to Patterson's side.

I cannot ever remember a game turning on so many calls as this one. I don't believe we would have won anyway with the 2nd half el-foldo again, but the Patsies got about 5 freebies that helped ice the game. If I would have been at that game I would have been hospitalized, in jail, or both. Absolutely one of the worst folds I have ever seen by the Dolphins...and I have been watching this team since the 70's. Great post!!

I will take the blame for the 2nd half effort. lol.

What is funny...the 2nd half STARTED the same way the 1st half ended. Three and out for Brady and a long Miami drive that should have yielded points. So frustrating.

And that was the drive that likely would've been the dagger from a morale standpoint, and instead it breathed life back into them and their fans.

When a team is down relatively big at the half and then comes out and lays an egg on the opening drive of the second half, an immediate "answer" by the team that's ahead is usually a big demoralizer. Like I've said in about 50 posts since then, we should've been playing at all costs not to come out of that drive with fewer than three points.

Passing the ball twice, on 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2, is not playing that way.

Good assessment. Its a shame that we beat ourselves. The only team that has truly beat us by being far superior was NO. Every other game we made critical mistakes and shot ourselves in the foot. Its exhausting.

Also...dont know if this point was brought up but Egnew had some BIG blocks out of the FB position that sparked some of those runs.

Absolutely not, Juan Huron is a rare breed of athlete. He's playing professional football on Mars these days (I think).

Thanks HF! Great write up. I've been sulking all day, but I can't wait until Thursday. Always excited and hopeful for a turn around.
