McDaniel’s issues

The play calling process is too slow. I don’t know the lingo, but it has to be changed if it takes that long to relay it. Another solution would be to put the plays on a numbered wrist band. The process has to be sped up.
I am a huge supporter of McDaniel. When he speaks he is very thoughtful and can never just answer the question. Ultimately, his answers are well thought out and right on point. It is possible that his processing of play calls also follows a circular thought process. I am sure he will get better.
As a coach I get why he had those issues. Sometimes there are just two voices in your ear and it creates doubt. Plus you got several coaches in your ear talking to each other over the headset.

There needs to be a process to streamline that communication. It's easier said than done. It's not as simple as analysts think as there are several different moving pieces

Do you think a big reason for these issues in McDaniel’s first year was because he was more focused on looking at the play sheet and calling plays?
Your answer is in your question.

Perhaps our backup wasn't really available, and Skylar was told not risk any injury?? Otherwise no really good reason as a young QB's often rely on their legs.
That has to be the answer because Skylar is horrible throwing on the run. If there were no injury concerns, I'd prefer Skylar took off every time he rolled out of the pocket. I can throw the ball moving to my left better.

We all agree he should have run. We are just wondering what stopped him 🐻

I'd like to see him work the refs a bit. I don't recall a situation where he was really pressing them. 4th and 1 and I'm screaming for a measurement.

I'm OK with McD assimilating his Y1 HC experience and "really cool" using his supposed high IQ to figure a few things out in terms of efficiency and chaos management (a theory he should have some insight into).

That said, I'm talking about being ahead of the curve vs. the opposition -- being better prepared to make quick (effective) game adjustments and anticipating what the opposition can do with their strengths to subdue your strengths. I think he needs to address the O predictability and his reliance on just playing superior cards (i.e., Hill and Waddle) and add the RUN GAME as a staple -- tho I'm assuming there was a general lack of belief in our run game -- and hence OL problems relative to system preference and player capabilities (see the abandonment of the OZ). But our IZ was pretty good at times and WHY was Eichenbust inserted over Jones??? And for frogs snakes -- focking CUT Deiter when we're grabbing trash off the street rather than insert this kid!!! WTF was that?

OK, couldn't help myself. Sure seems there was some weird "personnel decisions" made that somehow smacked of Grier meddling... Just my impression.
Eichenbust!!!! 😂

Good point about street guys playing over Dieter. He must be downright abysmal. I kinda forgot he was even on the roster

Other posters pointed out that you hardly saw measurements across the league all season. Does anyone know if the rules have changed there? Can you still ask for one without a challenge or using a TO?

I've said this already. Can you honestly see him going off on one with his whole persona and getting taken seriously? I don't know him and I'm going by his media interactions. He's a decent individual that gives his personality out football wise with his knowledge and views but I can't see him having a meltdown at a sideline judge.

McDaniel’s clock management issues as well as other things that shot us in the foot consistently definitely haunted us all season.

I’m not making that an excuse for the consistent issues by any means and we need to fix it this offseason. Just curious on what y’all think
That could’ve been a factor. I also want to point out that McDaniel is the most aggressive coach that I have ever seen. Sometimes too aggressive. He takes deep shots downfield basically every drive and goes for it on 4th almost every-time no matter where the ball is. While it is refreshing, maybe he needs to slow it down a bit and focus on driving down the field and controlling the clock? Maybe I’m wrong

I def feel he’s been too aggressive as well! I do love that he’s aggressive though but I hope he just slows down a bit
