But Friday, Irvin was in a Plano cop shop explaining what a pipe and baggies were doing in his car.
Police stated they believed the baggies contained marijuana residue. Irvin told them at the time the baggies belonged to his brother.
"He left it in there," police quoted Irvin.
That would seem to contradict Irvin's story Sunday and Monday that a friend, whom he's refused to incriminate by identification, was responsible. What a friend Irvin is, indeed.
It may seem as if there is some good news for Irvin from his latest run-in with the law. He is facing just a misdemeanor rather than a felony. The most he can be penalized is a $500 fine.
But the residual damage from this may be greater than all before. Consider that his last arrest, even though the charges wound up dropped, cost him a job he hadn't even started with Fox Sports Net, the regional Fox network.
So Friday's arrest, no matter his explanation, could cost him his high-profile part-time gig on ESPN's NFL Countdown shows.
