With free agency and the draft right around the corner, what side of the ball needs the most help?

Obviously, Miami has a challenge in front of them with so many potential free agents. What happens with Wilkins certainly will impact the offseason, draft etc.

The post by Stoobz on cap compliance is a great thread to read. My take is Miami could free up about $45 million. Not a lot if Wilkins eats up $20 million of that, with six million for draft picks. The team can structure contacts in a way to keep most of the major players together, though. Also referred to as credit card spending.

Anyway, there are obviously needs on both sides of the ball. Towards the end of the season, I thought the defense outplayed the offense. The O did get off to an incredible start.

Let's discuss needs.

Think we have more needs on the defensive side of the ball. There is a good chance we lose starters to FA and that we cut guys post June 1st. The offense is salvageable for now. Armstead and Hill are eventually going to cause cap space issues.

We have lots of needs on both sides. Iā€™d prioritize as follows:

1. Resigning our OL
2. Rebuilding our DL
3. Replacing Jerome Baker
4. Adding a quality slot receiver
5. Adding a quality tight end
6. Finding a strong safety
7. Improving our CB depth
8. Filling the LG position

Mostly Offense, not so much in number of slots, but in priority, we need starters here. C, T (maybe immediately) and G could ALL be required... now. We need another young RB, a TE, an X WR, maybe not as immediately as linemen, but it would certainly help.

On the Defensive side, we might need a WSLB (probably) if Baker won't take a paycut. We might need a DT if CW moves on (probably)... but after that, our only other striking need is at Safety, and only if both Jones and Elliot walk.
Sure, we could use another Edge... but Chubb and Phillips are the starters and signed... even though they'll likely be slow starting. An Ingram type signing is probably preferred to expending a #1.

So Offense... I wouldn't be opposed to seeing our first 3 picks all on the Offensive side of the ball.

Since Miami's last win of the season vs Dallas (the offense was mid) it would appear Miami needed more offense:

All phases sucked vs Baltimore, and the offense was a no show vs Buffalo and KC. But with a new DC and a bunch of FA's it's probably going to be defense with the bigger need. Offense could definitely use a 3rd WR, cornfed lineman and a scoring threat TE.

With Armstead obviously on his way out in the next couple of years, if not sooner, it's pretty obvious we have to draft high on Oline.

Hopefully we get lucky and that person becomes an impact player, 'cause we really need it.

It's definitely going to be a challenge to fill the majority of needs.

Miami has two "major " draft picks. The expectation is that a 1st and 2nd round pick are immediate starters.

After that, the Dolphins have a 5th, two 6th rounders and a 7th.

It's hard to imagine Grier being a major player in free agency, but smart low-cost moves will have to hit.

With the free agents we have, OL and DL are the places of most "need". We hardly have the bodies to cover them. Obviously we need a punter. If we start cutting, it will be Baker and Ogbah, so that heightens the need for LB's/Edge.
