My Opinion:Tony Sparano gave a clue to who is a top of MIA's draft board!!!

I just about threw up. john beck follows that fumble with several 3 and outs of which i have the game recorded commentators stating, "wow, that was a really bad pass...yeah, that was..."

finally, after the game is over and out of reach...lorenzo booker begins to take over and john beck runs it in for a TD. then, with less than a minute left of a blowout loss, john beck finally throws his "only" TD of the year. finally, its over with.

Enter Jeff Ireland. In his opening PC, JI makes the following statements: "There is a lot of work to be done between now and April's draft, and Parcells and I are continuing to evaluate the team's needs, with the quarterback position being one of the 'HIGHER' priorities".

He adds: "the quarterbacks getting ready to play in the playoffs and their importance to their respective teams is a prime example of how significant that position is. those teams that are playing right now have quarterbacks that play at a "HIGH" level".

when asked if he had a high opinion of beck? JI says, "sure, we 'HAD' a high opinion of him coming out of college, sure."

Enter Tony Sparano. (an OL coach by trade). In his initial PC he makes another telling statement when asked if because he was an OL coach, he thought that that was the main position to build your team around?

Sparano's answer was stunning: "“Make no bones about it, I feel like that is an important position, 'BUT' I look at the eight teams that just played this past weekend – and we were one of them – and they all had "QUARTERBACKS" that were OUTSTANDING. I’m "SURE" that the "QUARTERBACK" position is "THE" POSITION TO BUILD YOUR TEAM AROUND...
With that being said, when we arrived in Dallas with Coach (Bill) Parcells, one of the commitments there was, slowly but surely, to try to get the line to play the way it did this past season. That was a work in progress, but when you see the end result and what happened, you know how important the interiors are on both sides of the ball.â€

He said it, not me.

The Sparano makes these remarks on his impressions of john beck: “None right now. I have not 'WATCHED FILM'. I’ll reserve comment that way. At the end of the day, I need to sit down and 'WATCH TAPE'. For me, it’s 0-0. I need to see what’s happening on the film and watch it.

(then this part): "I’m not interested in watching all the 'GOOD' plays. I need to see what’s happening with the quarterback when he’s not winning, when he’s behind and when he’s doing all of those things.â€

So Sparano's opinion of Beck is based on what he saw on tape last season. he wasn't going to judge john beck based on his "college career" or his "hype coming out of college"....he said that he would judge it based on the "tape he would watch of this past season". is it being biased to say that beck was "AWFUL" last season? i think not.

Come Jeff Ireland at the Senior Bowl. He mentions that "DT" and "QB" are his main areas to focus on "this" offseason. They traded for J Ferguson and signed R Starks via FA to show he meant what he said of focusing on "DT". Now he signed J McCown and is waiting the draft to show he means what he said about fixing the "QB" position. His own words.

Well, MIA pushes hard to sign calvin pace during FA. Meaning that of those "3" players, they intended on signing calvin pace which happens to play the same position that jason taylor plays and that chris long plays.
MIA showed its card. They "want" to draft a player "other" than chris long because they attempted to find a replacement for jason taylor by signing calvin pace.

they failed to do so. thus, BP has emphatically denied any JT trade rumors...and is quoted as saying: "only way JT doesn't play for MIA in 2008, is if he retires."

Well, so who is it? Who is on "top" of MIA's draft board? Well, the answer is obvious.

So? How in the world does anyone in their right mind come up with someone having an irrational "man crush" on a player...when all these clues have led Mike Mayock and anyone who paid attention to all those hints that MIA does indeed have Matt Ryan a top their draft board?

On top of all this...experts acknowledge that OT class is "deepest in years".

On top of all this...Matt Ryan won the Manning Award, given to the nation's best QB, beating Tim Tebow. He won the Johnny Unitas Award, given to the best senior QB. He proved to be a TD machine by throwing 31 tds and leading a team in the ACC to 11 wins.

On top of all this...Jerry Jones, who is BP/JI/TS's former boss and who hired them because of the same reason that BP hired JI/TS...having a likeminded view when it comes to football...states that "the 'ONLY' player in this year's draft that is worthy to trade UP all the way to #1 for is: QB MATT RYAN of BC!"

For anyone to read this and say that believing that BP is thinking Matt Ryan at #1 is unfounded and ludicrous...is just that....unfounded and pure ludicrous!

Well this certainly changes everything, how could I've not seen this before. You've completely got me convinced now, were definitely taking a QB. I mean BP had a disgusting look, a disgusting look!!!!!!
They talked about evaluating all positions and QB being most important - which obviousily they did because they let Lemon go and expressed no interest in T.Green. Then they brought in a QB that will get you by in a pinch if Beck gets hurt.
They said they HAD Beck high on their list, HAD is past tense, the draft happened in the past, I guess you can blame JI for having a good grasp of the english language.
AT the combine they said they concentrate on DL and QB, they signed Ferguson and Starks, where's our DE's for the 3/4 what V.Holliday and who?
We have a open roster spot for our 3rd QB, looks like we might draft a QB in the later rounds to me.
We tried hard to sign Pace so C.Long is out of the picture, ahhh did we sign him, no so if anything that shows you how important the position is and C.Long would become more of a favourite.
BP said JT will be a Dolphin unless he retires, what did you think he'd say. If he comes out and says we're trading JT nobody would offer much because now we have to get rid of him. Then the whole D.Culpepper situation happens again, let him go were so mean for stringing JT along. It holds the same value as JT himself saying I'm under contract so as far as I'm concerned I'm a dolphin and it's where I want to be. Yeah right, JT wants to play through 2 more losing season and retire just when were ready to compete for a SB!!!
JJ has a likeminded view to BP when it comes to football, really, the guy who wants every loud mouth talent which is exactly opposite to BP player choices. JJ likes to meddle, BP hates anyone telling him what to do, why else does he ask for full control when he's hired. JJ was getting desparate when Dallas went in the funk for 4/5 years, he agreed to hire BP and that he would stay out of football operations. So what happens when TO becomes available JJ all over him and BP is doing everything he can not to strangle the guy. Then when BP has Dallas right in SB contention he leaves, why, my guess is JJ was backing out on his promise to be a pedestrian and was interfering more and more.
Our off season also excluded signing (let alone even making a effort to) any OT's, this if anything leads most to believe J.Long is under serious contention. Yes the draft is deep in OT but do you want a good one or the Best one. Don't tell me all these 2nd round OT's are as good as J.Long because if that were true they'd all be first rounders or J.Long would be a second rounder.
Everywhere BP has gone his teams have had excellent run games and great defense. That adds up to J.Long and C.Long not a okay QB prospect in Matty Ice.
You also state that when evaluating the QB play he will look at the bad plays not the good ones that has to be the worst news for Matty Ice and all his interceptions. That should melt any chance of the Ice man being drafted by us.

While its true that he worked under Gary Crowton who happend to recruit John Beck, the real reason he was probably offered the job was that he had worked closely with head coach Tony Sparano in Cleveland in 2000 and Washington in 2001. There is no way in the world that Bill Parcells was making his OC coordinator postion based on a second year Qb at least in my opinion. Also we dont really know for sure if that is the perfect offense for Beck especially when Robert Anae's version of the spread seemed to really suit Beck much better than the Crowton spread option offense. So maybe if we hired Robert Anae I might feel like its a lock that everything revolves around Beck. Another thing is we really are not sure what kind of offense that Carmichael would have ran since he has never been an offensive coordinator. We then hire Dan Henning instead whose offense seems to be nothing like the New Orleans offense. I mean if we were hiring Carmichael to run an offense that would really suit Beck, why wouldn't our replacement choice be of a similar style.

I think it makes far more sense that we tried to hire Carmichael based on him working with head coach Sparano. Just makes more sense to me that Sparano wanted a guy he had worked with and respected more than, this guy's mentor recruited Beck and he is Qb coach for a team that has a Qb that Beck is compared to by some.

I can't count how many times I've heard the argument, "Talent evaluators like Beck." No. Talent evaluators LIKED Beck. Opinions change after watching a performance like last season's.

THANK YOU. Yet if "someone" were to dig up an old thread of mine, post 2007, I had a high opinion of Beck too. HAD being the key word. Theres just something about a QB who cant even lead a team to scores at all, and barely gets into the opponents territory, that scares me to death, rookie or not. And no, Im not counting the steelers game. That game was 3-0 with any two teams in the league playing on that field.

The difference is you don't get paid to evaluate talent.
 
if we draft a qb,it will be because of are new qb coach .this was the most important hire in the off season,and was the first coach to.his input will make the decision nobody else's.he's one of the best,and has bill's full confidence.he has been working with beck for months now,and should have a good feel for him.but i'm going with henne,if he is even close to ryan.i still feel we can move down once,or even twice.getting 4-6 picks in the first 2 rounds. still getting are qb,with alot of beef where we need it.this is the way to rebuild,but only if they think henne is close to ryan,i do.but nobody will make a move or a decision without the qb coachs blessing.i look for us to be at henne's pro day quietly ,then my plan with be will be on it's way.nobody knows *hit .it's a guess just like everybody else's lol.i wish everyone could just have fun with it,and keep are ego's out of it.fan for life.
 
Mr Ed, that was some reach. I think GBN said it best about Ryan.

"... Kansas City head coach Herm Edwards' comment that Ryan appeared tight early on has been well documented, but Edwards, the only head coach in Boston this week, later compared Ryan to his former New York Jets' QB Chad Pennington. Not that Pennington hasn't had a decent career, but the one-time 18th pick overall in 2002 also isn't going to the Hall of Fame either as he struggles to hold on to a job with the Jets. the carmichael thing means little if anything. sparano even said that carmichael was never offered anything. i just think these guys will want their own quarterback.
 
just because they were getting ready to hire beck's brother's, sister's former college roommate you think they like him? ugh

Not to pile on regarding this point, but these guys are exactly right. I think there is a lot of presumption in this original post and reading too finely into things said/done. I think we all agree that having a good/capable QB is key to the success of a team and we've been somewhat lacking in the past on this. I'm not going to get into the argument for or against Beck, that's not the point here. The point of this is whether the FO feels they need to draft their own QB this year ? Even if they felt they did, the question then becomes, is that Matt Ryan with the #1 pick. Maybe they like him, maybe they are thinking someone in the 2nd is just as good, if not better. Maybe they like Ryan, but don't feel they want him at #1 and have to get an elite player at another need position there. Thus, they feel they can draft another QB somewhere in the 2nd and be just as happy. Isn't that what the FO did last year? I'm not saying it was right or wrong, just what THEY felt was a better plan. Who knows what they are truly thinking on specific guys as they are guarding this secret with their lives and they've always been good about hiding what they truly are thinking about the draft.
