i was on twitter today and came across one of my favorite dolphins players profile, 2nd year WR #86 Rishard matthews. I noticed in his twitter profile that it said Dolphins rookie WR, so I messaged him and told him he needed to update his bio he is no longer a rookie!

he survived a year of philbin, says a lot! lol

but he replied and said that he is still a rookie, much more work needs to be done, more needs to be proven.

what a great attitude to have, most wrs these days are divas even late round picks but i've always liked rishard, he looks like a well built nfl style receiver and has already made a couple nice catches....unlike teddy slim. i liked teddy tho.... but back on subject

later he posted a pic of him and nolan carroll, charles clay and rj stanford finishign up a boxing workout in miami

good to see some guys together working out, specifically liked seeing the 2 corners together and im also a big charles clay fan

    thoughts!!!!???

seems a nice kid, I follow him as well. Though he has a lot of work to do to prove he is a starting WR .

With his special teams contribution and decent upside I find it hard to believe he won't be on the roster all year.

I like him too. Since the preseason, he proved he should have started over Naanee. I'm starting to like the idea of shipping out Bess, and having a wr corps of: Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, and 2 draft picks.

He seems like a nice humble guy too

-but man from that picture, I would not want to mess with Rishard (or Carroll honestly, maybe boxing will toughen him up or improve his handwork)

Rishard Matthews and Gibson are going to be big for us.

There is no doubt he makes the team... Not sure where that question even comes from? He did everything you want to see a rookie receiver do. Guy is here to stay for a while.

    Receiver position is set.

when he made a (roughly 20 yard) seam catch and got the **** trucked out of him, (at home) then got right back up with a big smile on his face I couldnt have been happier for him. I'm certainly rooting for him to make the team and definitely think he deserves it over binns. at least he can catch a ball

The guy will be lucky to make the team. With Wallace, Gibson, Hartline, and Bess...there is really only one position left. If we draft a WR in the first five...he's toast.

I expect we keep six. I think Mathews keeps his roster spot, at the expense of Egnew/Clay if need be.

Likely not. Bess would be the odd man out, as he has value (both in his release and in trade value)

Why would there be an odd man out? We have 5 good receivers. Why would they drop a guy? Makes no sense.

    You either:

    A) Sign Bess back to a short term deal next offseason

    Or

    B) Draft a guy to play the 5th spot in the 2014 draft

No need to destroy one of our deepest positions...

I'm not looking at trades etc. I am looking just at who is the best out of who we have.

Matthews dropped more than his share of passes. I recently looked at all of Tannehills passes from last year to get my own stats on right/left/middle short/middle/deep...and while I was at it...Matthews stood out as a guy that missed a lot of passes that hit him in the hands. Passes that weren't Tannehills fault. Now, there were several passes that were difficult...but he didn't step up.

---------- Post added at 11:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 AM ----------

If Bess is gone...it will be from a trade...not getting cut. Mathews would get cut.

That just seems like a strange distinction, though. With Bess being traded (or cut) it'd allow Matthews to stay. The specific route of his departure seems inconsequential.

He was one of my favorites last year. I had 10 wide receivers I'd have targeted at different stages in the Draft and he was 1 of the 10.

    He's got a chance.

I was excited by everything I saw out of Rishard last year. He took full advantage of every opportunity he was given. Very athletic with great ball skills. He'll be a great #4/5 receiver. I think he's good enough to beat out Gibson for the 4, but I love that we signed Gibson anyway. The best way to fix an area of need is competition. Wallace and Gibson are just gonna make this guy work that much harder. Can't wait to see what 86 puts on tape this year.

What Rishard showed in particular to me is that he may have a knack for playing the slot position the way Philbin and Sherman run the offense. He missed out on one big play that sticks out in my mind but it was a pretty near-miss, the type that shows potential.

According to that site, he had 11 catches and 0 drops.

he got on the field and made a few plays for us last year, I think he showed more then some of the other guys that shuffled through here this past season, but I don't think he will really get much of a shot:

WR: Wallace, Hartline, Bess, Gibson, (Draft pick?) 4(5)
TE: Keller, Clay, Egnew, (Draft pick?) 3(4)
RB: Miller, Thomas, Thigpen, Gray(draft pick?) 4(5)

I think Miami will be add players in this draft at all of these positions, I have to wonder with that many other players coming in or signing now, is really going to get much more opportunity than last year?

You can start with 6:32 of the first against Jacksonville. It was a hard catch...BUT CLEARLY A DROP. I would not trust that site you were looking at...

Then 7:25 of the first in 2nd game against NE. It took me a whole 2 minutes to find this one...

Some would argue that it was just out of reach...to me it looks like a case of alligator arms...

Fair enough, I watched about 90% of our games, missed some or parts of them due to work. But that was from my memory thinking he didn't have many. It's hard to go by a quick google search's results I guess lol but thanks for actually pointing out instances.

I think I remember the Patriots game, was the pass to him like a deep streak where he appeared open and the ball was a little in front of him? Catchable imo
