Salary Cap

Can we pls cut Pouncey. Can't practice, isn't good, commits tons of penalties and I think there will be no drop off with Brendal at a fraction of the price. Also it's would probably be the only guy we can cut with a back up plan that doesn't include creating a hole

We have three times less cap space in the next two years than the Browns have this year. I fail to see how that's a "good situation next year". Maybe if we actually had a decent team built up it would be okay, but we don't. Plus Tannenbum is sure to get grabby and start giving away next year's money to make himself look better this year.

It would be like winning the lottery. Please cut him already.

Branch is going to bounce back to 2016 results with half the snaps? Harris is likely to increase his workload and now we have Quinn. Wake may also remain. No one knows yet.

Spotrac has a salary cap simulator using the new number and includes Quinn's number.

Doesn't look especially good for the Dolphins. It says we're starting at $21M over the cap before any cuts.

After I cut Simmons, Thomas and James, it still shows as $1.8M over the cap. Cutting Pouncey gets the number to $5.1 under the cap but with 3 missing starters (G, C and TE) assuming we draft a LB or use whatever ragtag.

We aren't in a good cap situation without restructuring the big contracts (which I'd advise not to, but T-Baum probably won't be able to help himself).

Obviously Landry's franchise tag hold is a big part of that so something needs to be done with him.

PS Dolphins are currently in the worst salary cap situation of all the teams. Only the Eagles and Dolphins are in the negative. Cleveland has a whopping $108M in salary cap space. This is for everyone that thinks Tannenbaum and Grier are doing a good job.
So according to this logic, the Browns execs are the Bees Knees?

if we don't trade Landry we are truly ****ed. Keep on mind we still need money for the draft and a couple of free agents

Ozzy rules!!
We can sign Landry and convert portion of his contract to bonus and guaranteed $$$.
If we decide to retain James we can do the same.
With Wake I would gamble on his body holding for 2 years in a pass rush specialist mode. He would certainly be worth 8 Mill a year.

no one deserves the money more then him and you get rid of whoever you need to before you let him go, man has the heart of a lion, come oonn now

No way I would restructure Reshad Jones for the same reason as mentioned above for Suh. He is on the wrong side of 30 and we can get out in two more years but would still have some dead money ($3.7M).

We are also going to need 8-9M for the rookies.

Cam Wake has been on a bargain deal most of his career. He is still a bargain at $8.6M. Cut him and stick Branch on the strong side full time? No thanks and I'm sorry but Cameron Malveaux played 10% of the snaps last year and Fede is not as good as some claim in the run game. He played 16% of the snaps.

You want to make a sacrifice, it has to be James or Pouncey in addition to Thomas and Timmons.

Just let Wake and Quinn loose on the edge.
I think Jones could be a cut candidate next year. If we hold out this year, next year could be a boom of salary available for us.

It all sounds so easy to get under the cap. We cut this guy and that guy but when we do cut them they have to be replaced! That costs money, heck we currently don’t even have a backup QB or RB on the roster (not counting the PS)!

We are not in good shape no matter how we slice it and I am starting to think a bigger shake up could be coming like Suh as a post June cut.

We cut Thomas and Timmons without any major repercussions in terms of production; draft a TE if available. The O-line seemed to be no worse when James was out, so we can cut him as well. We then have to sign depth, but that is much cheaper. How much of a difference is Pouncey to the next center? 8 million dollars worth? If we are enamored with a QB that Gase wants a new starter and does not trust Tannehill, then trade or Post June 1st cut him and bring in a veteran QB for backup. Someone like one of the Minnesota QB's that doesn't get a starting gig or McCown or even Moore.

The only way we would need an 8-9 mil rookie pool is if we somehow add a couple first day picks. Where did that number come from?

No matter how anyone wants to look at it, Landry will have to go ro else we're going to need a bunch of UDFA's to fill out the roster and forget about getting any help in free agency
