Trouble brewing over Jets QB's

Joe Flacco only threw 3 passes last year in the first preseason game and worked with the 3rd stringers.

The way Ryan has practiced Sanchez was to make it feel like a game situation, he put as much heat on him as possible with the only thing he didn't receive was getting hit.

Preseason games defenses really don't show much, they play vanilla. Sanchez will receive playing time, just not as much tonight because of 3 starters being down. The guys that are out won't be out that long, they are just a bit banged up. Sanchez sees more in practice than what he would see in a preseason game, the only difference is guys actually coming to hit you.

The 3rd preseason game is the most regular season like game of the preseason games, when we play the Giants its usually a good show of where the Jets are. Both teams play hard and show a bit more of what they'll do in the season, and also play the starters for 2 quarters to 3 quarters.

Anyways lets wait and see how much he actually does play tonight, because we really don't know, just know that Ryan said Ainge will get most of the reps.

If rex was afraid to play Sanchez tonight for more than a series, do you think he'll let him play in the 3rd game, against the Giants and their rush? The rams blow! Let the kid gain confidence.

Is that even a question? How long have you watched football for? The first preseason game you usually only play your starters for a couple series, in this game the Jets had their starting offense out there for 3 series, 2 with Clemens and 1 with Sanchez.
The 2nd preseason game you start to play the starters a bit more, then the 3rd is always the game you play your starters in the most.

Not to mention we had 3 starting OL out today and they won't be out for the Giants game.
And I think Sanchez gained a lot of confidence today, and I will be surprised if he isn't the starter for next weeks game.

Their defense didn't look like the "violent" defense that's been promised by Ryan. What happened?

defenses usually don't show multiple blitz packages either, but I read rex was sending them from everywhere. didn't see the game live, so i don't know if thats true.

A number of veteran qb's played into the 2nd qtr, Brady & McNabb among them. Guess the rules have changed.

They were sending lots of blitzes, but the STL RBs really need to work on their blitz pickups. It was terrible how many they let through, it wasn't because of an overload or them getting overpowered either, it was just a whiff on a block 75% of the time.

The Jets sent a few blitzes here and there, nothing real complicated. It was a pretty vanilla defense like all preseason defenses are. The Rams did a horrible job at picking them up. No one really shows their stuff during preseason, the offense is vanilla and the defense is. Especially the first preseason game and 4th preseason game.

What are you talking about? Its preseason and the Rams first team offense did nothing. Jets were without Darrelle Revis and Kris Jenkins too and its not like the Jets showed much on defense besides a few blitzes.

Isn't it strange how fans always say its vanilla or no one shows their stuff, but then we freak out if a QB does good or bad in preseason?

Yes, which is why people need to relax. Last year Matt Cassell looked brutal in preseason and the Lions went 4-0. We as fans have no idea what we're looking at during the preseason. Just enjoy the fact that football is back on TV and stop trying to read into every little detail.

The first preseason game is always very vanilla. It is very hard to judge starting players based on the first game. The defense is only running basic formations and for the most part so is the offense. It is really hard to say "This guy is great" or "This guy sucks" based on the first preseason game.

They were missing Kris Jenkins and Darrell Revis. 2 Pro Bowl players. And even with them gone their D didnt look bad. Not that it looked great but it wasnt bad or anything and its the first preseason game.

So for the defense to be "violent" they need those players? Sorry but that doesn't cut it. Their defense looked OK but that was against the rams, and their offense is below anemic.

Again, what are you talking about? Its PRESEASON football. And the Rams are going to be much better than last year, just wait and see. They improved their OL by signing Jason Brown and Jacob Bell is healthy this year. Stephen Jackson is a stud too when healthy. The WRs suck, but CB get abused in preseason anyways, I remember Revis last year was giving up catches like crazy in preseason. Then was shutdown in the regular season. Plus add the fact that the Jets are still learning a new defense, they may not even start out the season that good. It may take a while for them to fully master Rex's defense.

And also, Rex Ryan never said the Jets defense was going to be violent. That was Bart Scott. And you will never see a violent defense in preseason football.
