What Would It Take For Miami To Be Serious Contenders In 2019?

It all starts with the coach, and right now this team doesn’t even have that ATM.....

A--elite coach paired with elite QB

B--Elite defense with top 10 run game--top 15 QB

C--Good coach with very good OC & DC/coaching staff
Well, it seems like Miami is going to be doing things the Patriots way. Can't beat them, join them I guess. Flores is a complete mystery. Is he ready? Can he deliver early on in his career and, at least in year one get the defense headed in the right direction? I guess that's really the biggest question mark.

All reports are they do not want to compete next year.
Right. And if they decide to tear it all down like the Raiders it would almost assuredly guarantee a top 10 drafting position. If the team goes with Fales or Faulk a 0-4 win season would seem probable.

But, I'm just saying what if they hit big on a couple of players?

Who Grier chooses as the temporary QB will tell us what we need to know about being competitive this year. If he wants to be competitive he would go hard after Foles and sign him to a 2-3 yr deal. He is prob the only QB available that is at least avg and still fairly young. If Grier's plan is to purposely suck we will start a crap QB and no matter how good our draft picks or team are it won't matter.

Whoever the HC picks as his coordinators is going to make or break him and define this team. So I hope he chooses wisely.
True. I think that's what Adam Gase's main issue was, plus he still insisted on essentially being the offensive coordinator. Gase is off to a better start with his DC selection in New York.

Also, I think after going 10-6 in Gase's first year, the front office was fooled into thinking the foundation was stronger than it actually was. This team needs good players in the trenches. Maybe as many as three new starters on the defensive line and one or two offensive lineman.

Is Foles a free agent or would Miami have to trade for him?

For a second there I thought you were a pats fan trolling the board!
I hate the Jets #1 but Pats close 2nd. I respect Brady, i put him really high on the GOAT list but can't stand him.

Gase got himself a real DC but he’s already set himself up to fail by being the main playcaller on offense again. Maybe he learned his lesson and tweaks his play calls, but I just don’t know how his offense is going to be up there. Actually I do.... garbage.

Yeah Greg Williams is not a good defensive coordinator at all. They were awful for 3 years. Gase is already making the same mistakes over there. Works out for us

Healthy quality linemen, competent offensive and defensive coordinators, and a second perimeter CB

What would it take to compete next year? Simple, just use the Patriots method.

On the field ...

And, in the League Office ...

- Good coaching
- Lock down the QB position with above average talent
- Competent play calling and use of players
- Extreme luck hitting on draft picks
- Solid FA pickups as well as UDFA (Mainly OLine and Dline)
- Not trading away every good young player we already have
- Some of our schedule opponents to have some bad luck and a down year

Is Foles a free agent or would Miami have to trade for him?

I think he is a FA if he buys himself out for $2M or something like that, which is what he will likely do. The eagles may be able to try and franchise him in an attempt to trade though, but not sure if they would do that since they can't pay him that much.
