Dolphins Aquisitions: What Are Your Greatest Hits And Misses?

My BIG miss was believing Culpepper would be a huge success. Lol what was I thinking? I was in my early to mid 20s then.
My BIG hits was Jake Long and Ronnie Brown. I thought both would be special but are they HITS? As their respective draft position projects them to be hits. If we go late round guys, Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi were guys I was high on before we actually drafted them.

Was a huge fan of the Brock Marion signing. Big miss on Culpepper, I thought he would be an upgrade over ferotte

Hits: Irving Fryar (when folks thought his best days were behind him)
Keith Jackson (although his Dolphin tenure was brief; we're still 20+ years in waiting for a TE with a similar skillset)
Brock Marion (call me crazy but he was the last true centerfield type of FS; Mink is the future)
Ricky Williams (thanks Wannstedt)

Misses: Culpepper over Brees (enough said)
David Boston
Cris "all he does is catch TD's" Carter (I remember he had a severe case of the dropsies)
Joey Porter ( his 1 good season here was noteworthy)

There's plenty more but I leave that for other Dolfans to chime in.

Biggest miss for me was Jared Odrick. I was pissed about trading down, but felt better when we got him. Biggest hit was Olivier Vernon/Lamar Miller.

Hits are harder for me because I usually dislike our draft picks.

Biggest hit was either Jason Taylor (HOF drafted in the 3rd round out of Akron) or Zach Thomas(borderline HOF drafted in the 5th round out of Texas Tech)..

Biggest Miss- Easily Drew Brees.. he WANTED to be here, everybody thought it was a lock he was coming here.. but in typical Dolphin fashion.. we go with the rehabbed knee of Culpepper, over the rehabbed shoulder of Brees.. only set us back a decade or so.. missed out on a HOF QB who WANTED to be here.. nbd...

Honorable mention- Trading down in the 1st round where if we didn't trade down.. & stayed where we were at.. Randy Moss would of fallen to us.. instead we trade down & get John Avery...

Culpooper, that f****** guy. What a Madden talent though.

Biggest hit probably Reshad, still don't know how he and Chancellor lasted until the 5th.

Hits:
Marion(loved him in Dallas)
Ajayi(was happy that he fell that far) Too bad egos got in the way.
Trace Armstrong

Miss:
Henne. Didn't think he would be elite, but at least progress to be a good QB. Nope.
Jordan Phillips. Thought he could of been the next very good DT for us.

Dion Jordan..i thought he was gonna be incredible.
You just can't know, a lot of the time, what is in the guys heart. Had the physical ability, but was lacking in his desire. I was right there with you. I thought it was a slam dunk.

I was so relieved we didn’t draft Brady Quinn I defended the Ginn pick for years. Wasn’t so much out of respect for Ginn but the fact that I knew Quinn could not play and those begging to draft him drove me insane.

Hated the Pouncey pick more than any pick ever. He was somewhat useful but I still say he is a cancerous P.O.S.

Yeah I was into the Dion Jordan signing.

I was happy with Jake Long over Matt Ryan. I still don’t care much for Ryan. Yeah Jake broke down but I’m happy Matt Ryan is not a Miami Dolphin.

I drank the Culpepper Kool-Aid. I was in my teens then, though, and all I saw were Randy Moss-enabled highlights and a stacked stat sheet, rather than a QB inflated by a pass-first offense and an all-time great at wide receiver. I think every so often what could have been if Drew Brees ended up here rather than New Orleans...

I had high expectations for DeVante Parker. Needless to say they've never been met, and they never will be met. Total bust.

In terms of hits, nobody really comes to mind. It's only been one season but I absolutely loved the Albert Wilson signing and it was paying off in spades in the early going - I'm hoping he gets back to form pre-injury and is a key piece in this offense going forward.

Biggest misses for me are:

1 - Drafting a RB who wasn’t even the starter on his own college team #2 overall and passing on Aaron Rodgers when we desperately needed a franchise QB.

2 - Passing on Drew Brees. If we had taken either Aaron Rodgers or Brees when we had the opportunity it would have changed our destiny for the better all that time.

Biggest hits? Dan Marino (6th QB taken in 1983), Jason Taylor/Zach Thomas (take your pick)

And passing on Matt Ryan and taking Jake Long. This team has had plenty of chances to get a franchise QB they just haven't taken the risk instead opting for safer picks.

Man, in college I saw him do things I had never seen a player do before..it was incredible..I literally saw him come off edge, dip and rip for the sack, and then on the next play, get in an athletic corner position, on the perimeter, and cover, at 255 lbs..

He was the perfect Leo player, who was messed up in the head, which was understandable if you knew his history, but, that history got the best of him, I had a soft spot for the guy to make himself something after all that he had been through, {crack head mom, suicidial thoughts, severe burn victim}..and then on top of that we had incompetent people making bad decisions about him as a player.

I’ll go to my grave on that one, I was wrong, but not ashamed.

But I thought if you won the number one pick that the team automatically started winning Super Bowls? Funny how the dolphins had the number 1 and number 2 pick a couple years apart and they still don’t have a playoff win. This is why the tank notion is terrible.

Biggest miss...Joe Philbin

Biggest hit...Marino.

I'm glad they didn't take Matt Ryan because he never would've had the same consistency or offensive line in Miami that he has in Atlanta.
And one of my favorite free agent pickups ever was Keith Byars, more than Keith Jackson. Both were great, but I thought Byars was more versatile.
