40 points...WHY?!

Miami could have cracked the 40 mark easily, after leading by that much, with so little time for the Raiders to come back, Miami did the smart thing by taking their foot off the gas, and opting not to risk unnecessary injury.

Exactly. If I'm getting beat 38-7 or 14 late in the fourth and the other team runs it up I won't be as inclined to protect the other team's knees or ankles. I guarantee one or two Raiders would be chopping or some other dirty play if we kept running it up. The game was over and running it like that was the unwritten "hey man, I'll stop kicking your ass if you don't play like a dick".

Not running up the score is the classy thing to do, but we needed to get our kicker some confidence points. Sturgis is streaky and needs game reps imo.

I care only just enough to post, who cares? But yeah, it would have been nice. The more the merrier.

I'm never one for insulting other Dolphins fans especially after a big win, but are like 90% of the posters in this thread daft or did you just post a response without reading what I wrote?

First of all, who's bitching about anything here? I'm thrilled we beat a bad team! I'm thrilled we beat any team! That's what we should do, that's what good teams do to bad teams.

Are you the same people that don't care about the perfect season being upheld? I don't give a **** if we win by 1 point or 100, it's about the PRINCIPLE in this case. This is a discussion forum, no? Then instead of trying to insult the way I celebrate my fandom, try and discuss this topic:

Why is it that we constantly are in situations where we are down by 7 points or more, find ourselves in a 4th and 1, and elect to kick a FG when we need a TD, but today the game is a lock, we already know we've won and we have 3 points sitting there for the taking, but on a more unlikely scenario of 4th and 3, elect to run the ball? In my opinion, and probably anyone else's that's ever watched football, IT MAKES NO SENSE! Don't say I don't know what killer instinct is, when you meant to direct that comment to Joe Philbin. Killer instinct is not taking your starters out of the game and leaving points on the field that were there for the taking.

I'm totally fine with it if there isn't a single other person on this board that agrees with me, but this has nothing to do with winning or losing, or by how much, it's about logic (which just so would've happened to result in our highest score in 11 years). If you're the one calling the plays, do you really let your second team, run it on 4th and 3 and not just take the free points? C'mon man!

run the ball, get a first down, victory formation. that would have been the quickest way to end the game. we didn't need any more points.

I wonder how this board would have responded to the a successful conversion?

The OP is getting a lot of flack, but I was definitely hoping for 40 points. The game was won and before the flag it looked like Miller had run in for point 44 (45 after an extra point). I was sooooooooo excited about laying a forty-burger for the first time in a decade.

Alas, penalty happened and scoring didn't. I gotta admit ... I was a little bummed about it.

Yeah, it's a meaningless barrier ... but it is also a statement. It would be nice for the teams confidence to finally be on the right end of a forty-burger.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we won. That said, how many Dolfans realize the last time we cracked 40 points was 2003, 11 ****ing years ago?! We had two free chances at a FG, once from the red zone at 4th and 3, and we don't kick the FG, are you ****ing kidding me?! I don't care about good sportsmanship, Philbin's job is on the line and this would've sent a message to the fans, to Ross, to the media, and most of all to our opponents. I am disgusted at our lack of killer instinct. Today should've marked our highest scoring game in over a decade, but instead its just another W.

I think Philbin going for it on 4th and 1 from the Raiders nine yard line with the team up 24-7 showed his players all the killer instinct they needed from him.
